Your role in achieving results:

The Whey Technologist works as part of a collaborative team to support the operation of critical whey stream processes related to the production of consistent quality whey and high value ingredient products that deliver our customer's brand promise within our vision statement while optimizing yields and efficiencies. The Whey Technologist promotes and maintains a manufacturing environment and a workforce capable of meeting manufacturing requirements in whey and other ingredients. This position maintains the highest Agropur standards and consistently strives to produce quality whey ingredients for customers, always seeking to meet or exceed customer expectations and implement improvements for the future.

  • Improve the quality and/or efficiency of existing unit operations and procedures used to manufacture whey/dairy ingredients.

  • Collaborate with internal and external personnel to develop systems and procedures for new unit operations for the production of whey/dairy ingredients.

  • Revise or create reports for the purposes of yielding, exception reporting, lab data analysis, process trending or other metric evaluation.

  • Accurately perform statistical analysis of laboratory and process data to identify trends, deficiencies and formulate predictions.

  • Identify problem areas or areas for improvement in the production of whey ingredients, develop a plan for resolution and execute the plan.

  • Work with plant, corporate and other outside resources to resolve production issues such as cleaning, product losses, capacity limitations, out-of-spec products, and excess waste or effluent.

  • Proficiently measure microbial quality of dairy processes and resolve related issues.

  • Maintain procedures for the production of whey ingredients, operation, and training of supervisors and employees in the whey plant.

  • Work with the Quality Assurance department to make determinations on disposition of product based on product and customer specifications.

  • Work with the sales department regarding product disposition as well as with the customers. Visit customers as required to support the customer's needs and wants for whey ingredients.

  • Work in tandem with product development and ingredient sales on new product formulations as required to develop new sales.

  • Help to initiate, support and manage all whey processing continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Collaborate with and support Technical Services and R&D on projects and initiatives.

What we are looking for to deliver these results:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Dairy Science, Chemistry, Engineering or relevant field required.

  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.

  • Minimum three (3) years of dairy ingredients processing experience required.

  • Experience in a dairy plant and/or laboratory preferred.

  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to management and coworkers.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
