Job Title: Chef / Kitchen Manager

Job Summary:

Chicago Waffles is seeking an experienced Chef / Kitchen Manager to lead our kitchen team while actively working alongside staff during daily operations. This is a hands-on leadership position that requires strong cooking skills, excellent organization, and the ability to manage a high-volume kitchen. The ideal candidate will oversee food preparation, inventory, food costs, quality control, staff training, scheduling, and kitchen operations while ensuring every guest receives exceptional food and service.

Key Responsibilities:

Kitchen Leadership & Team Management:

• Lead, supervise, and motivate kitchen staff during all shifts.

• Train, coach, and develop cooks and kitchen team members.

• Create a positive, productive, and professional work environment.

• Ensure all employees follow company policies, recipes, and procedures.

• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and performance management.

Hands-On Cooking & Food Preparation:

• Actively work on the line during service and assist with food preparation as needed.

• Prepare, cook, and plate menu items according to Chicago Waffles recipes and standards.

• Fill in at any station when needed to support the team.

• Lead by example through speed, organization, cleanliness, and attention to detail.

• Ensure ticket times and food quality standards are consistently met during service.

Kitchen Operations:

• Organize daily kitchen production and prep schedules.

• Manage station assignments and workflow to maximize efficiency.

• Ensure all opening and closing duties are completed properly.

• Maintain kitchen equipment and report maintenance needs promptly.

• Monitor labor efficiency and productivity.

Inventory & Cost Control:

• Perform regular inventory counts and maintain accurate records.

• Order food, supplies, and kitchen products as needed.

• Monitor food costs and minimize waste.

• Ensure proper storage, labeling, and product rotation procedures.

• Control portion sizes and maintain recipe consistency.

Quality Control:

• Ensure all menu items meet Chicago Waffles quality and presentation standards.

• Monitor ingredient freshness and product quality.

• Conduct regular quality checks during prep and service.

• Work with ownership and management on menu improvements and specials when needed.

Food Safety & Sanitation:

• Ensure compliance with all health department regulations.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.

• Enforce food safety procedures and sanitation standards.

• Conduct regular inspections to ensure cleanliness and compliance.

Team Collaboration:

• Communicate effectively with front-of-house managers and staff.

• Assist other departments as needed to ensure smooth restaurant operations.

• Participate in management meetings and training sessions.

• Help create and maintain a strong team culture.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Chef, Sous Chef, Kitchen Manager, or similar leadership role.

• Strong cooking skills and knowledge of food preparation techniques.

• Experience managing kitchen staff and daily operations.

• Inventory management and food cost control experience.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment.

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

• Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Preferred:

• Professional kitchen experience.

• Food Manager Certification

• Breakfast and brunch experience.

• Bilingual or multilingual communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.

• Ability to bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 lbs.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment for extended periods.

Compensation:
Based on experience.
