POSITION OVERVIEW:

Title: Patient Service Representative-Dental

Reports To: See Department Head

Schedule: M-F; 8am-5pm

Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: This position can be assigned to multiple departments including: Physical Therapy, Behavioral Health, Optometry, Health Clinics, and is primarily assigned to our Dental Clinic. In this role you will be a highly visible face of the organization as you greet and receive patients visiting our facilities. This individual must have an engaging personality consistently delivering exemplary customer service. This position can be stationed at the reception desk of the facility or also potentially man a phone bank dedicated to incoming customer service calls. Being able to multi-task is a critical component of being successful in a very busy environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Will include but not limited to)

• Greet, and service incoming patients as they enter the facility.

• Adhering to a facility specific checklist for items needed for incoming patients, the incumbent will play a critical role in collecting a multitude of documentation including but not limited to (ID, Medi-Cal insurance information, co-payments, and other assorted forms).

• As the patient leaves this role is also responsible for providing documentation, notices, and scheduling follow-up appointments as needed.

• The PSR will often be the hub of communication ensuring a successful visit from the patient.

• This entails advising Medi-Cal Assistants when a patient is waiting to be seen, referring patients to Purchased Referred Care (PRC) specialists as needed, coordinating collection of insurance information with Insurance Verification Specialists (IVS), and answering the phone to (make appointments, answer questions, take messages, and transfer as appropriate).

• Utilizing Electronic Health Reporting (EHR) software this position will compile notes in patient charts along with assisting in back-office assigned tasks.

• This is also one of the primary methods for sending messages to MA's, Providers, and others as needed in servicing the patient.

• Cash handling procedures as needed for collecting co-payments from patients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED with a minimum of 1-2 years direct experience either working in: (Healthcare, Dedicated Customer Service, Or in a Phone Bank).

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of basic Medi-Cal terminology

Experience working with Electronic Health Records systems

Experience working with Native American population in a healthcare setting

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time; climbing stairs, step-stools, etc.; stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, and reaching; pushing, pulling and lifting up to 30 pounds; raising objects overhead; manual dexterity for operation of computer and phones; hearing, talking, and good verbal and written communication skills; repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers; subject to outside environmental conditions of heat and cold; and walking on uneven ground. The position requires the ability to safely operate and drive a motor vehicle.
