Food for Thought | Traverse City, MI

Do you enjoy working with your hands, staying active, and being part of a team that creates high-quality food products? Food for Thought is looking for a production team member in the role of Assistant Cook to support our food manufacturing operation in Traverse City.

This is not a restaurant position, rather you will be working alongside our Production Lead, helping to prepare recipes, stage ingredients, support cooking and batch production, monitor product quality, and ensure products are produced safely and consistently. You'll be involved in the process of turning raw ingredients into finished specialty food products that are distributed across the country.

Our team produces specialty food products in a manufacturing environment using commercial production equipment, batch processing systems, and food safety standards.

Whether you have experience in food manufacturing, production, warehousing, agriculture, or another hands-on role, this position offers the opportunity to learn new skills, work with a great team, and play an important role in creating products people enjoy every day.

Schedule

Team members are regularly scheduled to work four 10-hour day shifts, Monday through Thursday, with Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays typically scheduled off. Occasional overtime or additional hours may be required to support production schedules and customer demand.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare, measure, weigh, and organize ingredients for production
  • Assist with cooking, mixing, batching, and recipe preparation
  • Set up, clean, and maintain production equipment
  • Support packaging, production lines, and material handling as needed=
  • Complete production records accurately and in real time
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and quality standards
  • Help with cleaning, organization, and end-of-day production readiness
  • Work with team members across production to meet daily goals

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in food manufacturing, food processing, warehousing, production operations, commercial kitchens, agriculture, or related environments preferred but not required
  • Ability to follow recipes, procedures, and instructions accurately
  • Basic math skills for measuring and weighing ingredients
