Job description

Our Donor Technicians are on the front line every day, serving our blood donors and assisting them in their desire to donate the blood components needed to save lives. Donor Techs are hardworking and multi-talented. They've got to be detail oriented and accurate in everything they do, all while providing outstanding customer service to our donors! If you think you've got what it takes to become a Donor Tech with Mississippi Blood Services, you don't even need experience. We have an excellent paid training program.

Duties:

  • Perform all duties described in standard operating procedures accurately and efficiently.
  • Effectively manage two beds (automated and manual) collections.
  • Perform all aspects of registration of whole blood donors, donor screening, safety procedures & screening special procedures including Autologous, Directed and Therapeutic donations.
  • Perform all aspects of medical history, vein puncture procedure and donor monitoring.
  • Quickly and competently responds to donor reactions.
    Complete donor collection (automated and manual) paperwork accurately.
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly and PRN maintenance on apheresis equipment.
  • Perform all a.m. and p.m. duties of the Apheresis department.
  • Treat donors and other staff in a friendly professional manner.
  • Effectively use bexWISE Computer System.
  • Participate in donor recruitment and scheduling.
  • Dependable and flexible. Able to meet irregular work hours, including weekends.
  • Ensure management has current telephone contact information in order to reach you.
  • Maintain current CPR/AED certification.
  • Perform CPR as needed.
  • Perform all aspects of safety procedures.
  • Stock and maintain interview areas, phlebotomy collection area and canteen.
  • Serve as mentor for new associates as designated by department manager.
  • Effectively communicate with Telerecruitment regarding units collected/needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent along with a stable work history; previous experience or training desirable.
  • Basic computer skills, including accurate data entry.
  • Ability to meet fluctuating work schedules-Desire to make a difference, in this case, a lifesaving difference every single day
  • Ability to work with and through others in a friendly, cooperative, unselfish manner
  • Ability to work closely and accurately within established guidelines, while sometimes working at a faster than average pace
  • Aware of and responsive to the needs and concerns of others.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
