Position Summary
Under the supervision of the House Supervisor and Registered Nurse, the Ward Secretary II provides clerical and patient care support to ensure efficient unit operations and quality patient care. This role assists with maintaining accurate patient records, coordinating communication among patients, families, physicians, and staff, and providing direct patient care within the CNA scope of practice. The position serves patients of all ages, from newborn through geriatric.
Key Responsibilities
Unit Secretary Duties
  • Greet and assist patients, visitors, physicians, and staff professionally.
  • Answer, transfer, and manage telephone calls and messages.
  • Schedule patient tests, appointments, and transportation services.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Enter physician orders and process admissions and discharges.
  • Maintain patient census information, charts, and unit communications.
  • Order supplies and coordinate service requests as needed.

CNA Duties
  • Provide patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse.
  • Assist with patient monitoring, activities of daily living, and transportation.
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition.
  • Participate in shift reports and document patient care accurately.
  • Ensure patient and family needs are met and maintain a safe care environment.

Qualifications
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CNA certification or eligibility to obtain within 60 days of hire; RN/LPN students may be considered.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to maintain accurate documentation.

Preferred:
  • One year of healthcare experience.
  • Medical Terminology coursework.
  • MediTech experience.
