Immediate need for a talented Research Operations Engineer – Linux, Capture Systems & VR Hardware. This is a 06+ months contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Pittsburgh, PA (Onsite). Please review the job description below and contact me ASAP if you are interested.

Pay Range: $50 - $53/hour. Traveler benefits as per agency package. (Benefits vary by vendor and assignment.)


Key Responsibilities:


  • Support camera, optical tracking, audio, lighting, and AV systems used during research data collection sessions.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and operational support for capture-stage environments, sensor platforms, and VR/AR hardware.
  • Coordinate setup, validation, and maintenance of multi-device capture systems used for research studies and data collection activities.
  • Support synchronization, connectivity, and operational readiness of cameras, sensors, and AV equipment during active research sessions.Perform root cause analysis and drive resolution of operational issues.
  • Support user study and research environments while ensuring operational readiness.
  • Maintain and improve existing Bash and Python automation tools.
  • Troubleshoot networking issues including DNS, DHCP, routing, connectivity, and common network protocols.
  • Support camera systems, optical tracking systems, AV equipment, lighting systems, and capture hardware.
  • Work closely with researchers, software engineers, hardware engineers, and operations teams.
  • Document procedures, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and operational improvements.
  • Support multiple concurrent projects and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Follow strict participant privacy, security, and data-handling protocols.


Key Requirements and Technology Experience:


  • 2+ years of Systems Engineering, Technical Operations, IT Operations, Research Operations, Lab Operations, or Infrastructure Support experience.
  • Strong Linux troubleshooting experience using terminal and command-line tools.
  • Experience supporting Windows and macOS environments.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals including:
  • TCP/IP
  • DNS
  • DHCP
  • Routing
  • Connectivity troubleshooting
  • Experience scripting in Bash and/or Python.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware and software systems.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in Pittsburgh research environments.
  • Experience supporting camera systems, optical tracking systems, motion capture equipment, or AV infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Blackmagic, RME, AVB networking, Dante audio, Vicon, OptiTrack, or similar technologies.
  • Experience supporting VR, AR, MR, wearable devices, or immersive technology hardware.
  • Experience working in research labs, motion capture studios, media production environments, or sensor data collection operations.
  • Ability to build Python or Bash tools from scratch to automate operational workflows and improve reliability
