Software Engineer (Computational Geometry) - Defense Search

OVERVIEW

Are you looking for a new career opportunity with an exciting Defense/Aerospace company?! Then we've got the right team for you! In this role, you're responsible for the duties listed below.

Immediate opening for a Software Engineer (Computational Geometry) in Huntington Beach, CA who possesses:

  • Experience with Rust, C++, Go, or other performance-oriented languages
  • Strong experience with computational geometry, CAD/CAM systems, graphics, or geometric modeling
  • Experience with mesh processing, solid modeling, or geometric kernels
  • Strong algorithmic problem-solving skills, comparable to a competitive programming background

FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Software Engineer with a strong computational geometry and algorithmic engineering background to develop software that powers advanced composite manufacturing. This permanent role is responsible for building systems that analyze customer CAD models, automate manufacturability assessments, generate tooling and production geometry, support geometric engine development, and help bridge the gap between digital design and physical manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have strong software engineering fundamentals, experience with performance-oriented languages such as Rust or C++, strong computational geometry knowledge, and the ability to solve difficult technical problems in a fast-moving, technology-first manufacturing environment.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Building software that analyzes, manipulates, and generates complex 3D geometry
  • Developing algorithms that evaluate manufacturability of composite parts and tooling
  • Building systems that analyze customer CAD models
  • Supporting automation of manufacturability assessments and quoting workflows
  • Generating tooling and production geometry
  • Developing internal engineering tools that improve speed, quality, and scalability across the factory
  • Building interfaces to program machining equipment and automate workflows
  • Developing software for customer-facing and internal manufacturing platforms
  • Working on the geometric engine that powers the manufacturing platform
  • Collaborating closely with the CTO and software team
  • Collaborating with manufacturing, operations, and software teams to translate real-world production challenges into software solutions
  • Supporting software tools that help accelerate composite part design, quoting, and manufacturing
  • Writing fast, efficient, and reliable code to solve geometric and algorithmic problems
  • Working with spatial data structures, numerical robustness, and algorithmic complexity trade-offs
  • Helping shape technical architecture as the team grows
  • Supporting software development for proprietary manufacturing equipment and automation tools
  • Taking ownership of projects from concept through implementation
  • Performing other duties as assigned

The selected candidate will also possess:

  • Experience with Rust, C++, Go, or other performance-oriented languages required
  • C++ and Rust experience strongly preferred
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals required
  • Strong computational geometry experience required
  • Experience with CAD/CAM systems, graphics, or geometric modeling required
  • Experience with mesh processing, solid modeling, or geometric kernels preferred
  • Strong algorithmic problem-solving skills required
  • Competitive programming, hackathon, game engine, graphics, robotics, math, physics, or similar algorithm-heavy background preferred
  • Experience developing algorithms for geometric analysis, optimization, or manufacturability preferred
  • Experience building production-quality software systems required
  • Ability to independently drive projects from concept through implementation
  • Strong analytical thinking and technical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate complex technical domains
  • Strong foundation in mathematics, physics, computer graphics, robotics, or related fields preferred
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, CNC machining, tooling, or automation systems preferred
  • Experience with Rhino or related CAD tools preferred
  • Startup or small-team experience in fast-moving environments preferred
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and take ownership
  • Ability to work closely with founding teams, software teams, and manufacturing teams
  • Ability to support an onsite role in Huntington Beach, CA strongly preferred; hybrid or remote may be considered for highly qualified candidates
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday from approximately 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility as needed
  • Ability to support a permanent opportunity
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or otherwise eligible to obtain required export authorization

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while reviewing code, CAD models, technical documentation, manufacturing data, geometry files, algorithms, and software systems
  • Ability to communicate by phone, email, video meeting, and in person throughout the workday
  • Ability to review 3D models, CAD/CAM data, geometric outputs, software interfaces, technical specifications, and computer screens for extended periods
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for typing, coding, documentation, testing, debugging, and standard office tasks
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout office, engineering, manufacturing, or production environments as needed
  • Ability to collaborate with manufacturing and operations teams in factory or production areas as needed
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move standard office, engineering, or technical materials as needed
  • Ability to work in aerospace, defense, composite manufacturing, engineering, or production environments while following applicable safety procedures
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment as needed when entering manufacturing or production areas

Salary Range: $130,000 to $225,000/year plus equity option grants
