Job description

Title: Vice President of Products 

Company: Mattson Technology, Inc., a 38-year Silicon Valley company, designs, manufactures, markets, and globally supports plasma and rapid thermal processing equipment to fabricate integrated circuits for the global semiconductor industry. 

Mattson Technology, Inc. offers processing equipment that utilizes innovative technologies to deliver advanced processing capabilities and high productivity for the fabrication of current and next-generation integrated circuits. Our equipment and technologies are used by leading memory and logic, analog /power device manufacturers worldwide. Innovations from Mattson Technology in Atomic Surface Engineeringaddress the most critical logic and memory manufacturing challenges. 

In May 2016, Mattson Technology was acquired by Beijing's E-Town Capital. Our new investor's vision is that Mattson Technology, with its Silicon Valley DNA, will continue to operate as a global, market-driven technology provider serving worldwide semiconductor manufacturing customers. In July, 2025, the company successfully listed in Shanghai's STAR Exchange. As the external trade compliance environment evolves, Mattson Technology now operates independently from the parent company in product, business, and operations, serving customers outside of China. 

Structure: Reports to CEO 

Mission: The Vice President of Products will assume responsibility for leading, planning, and driving the vision, business initiatives, and growth of Mattson's product portfolio. Develop, implement, and manage an effective product and business plan based on a sound understanding of the market and technology. Success will be measured in product penetration and market share gain. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and improve world-class products and technology for applications according to customer requirements.  
  • Define futureplasma and thermal product requirements, product introduction strategy, financial analysis, and sales support materials that benefit product penetration. 
  • Leverage and maintain strong industry relationships with the customers to ensure product differentiation for existing and new applications, account penetration, and substantial market share gains.   
  • Determine the critical skills required and the staffing levels necessary to meet business objectives.   
  • Demonstrate effective leadership skills in inspiring, driving, and executing results through others, developing and/or upgrading talent as needed to ensure success.  
  • Develop clear priorities that achieve the highest return on the organization's resource utilization. 
  • Successfully manage the Mattson Technology demo lab, including the availability of adequate equipment to meet customer requirements. Execute customer demonstrations flawlessly. 
  • Establish CoO targets and COGS targets to achieve the best possible Order Contribution/Growth Margin-targets for the Mattson's products. 
  • Drive supply chain management and cost efficiency in conjunction with Operations. 
  • Promote Operational Excellence in all business processes. 
  • Work closely and effectively with Mattson Technology's Senior Management Team and other senior management executives within a highly matrixed, geographically dispersed organization. 
  • Continue to significantly expand intellectual property portfolio. 

Ideal Candidate: Recognized as an accomplished senior product executive with a solid track record in delivering semiconductor capital equipment to customers in the semiconductor industry. The successful candidate will have a recognized profile and proven track record of leading the continued growth and profitability of a significant semiconductor capital equipment business. The successful candidate will bring a combination of superior strategic and tactical skills and will have the ability to significantly contribute to Mattson Technology's growth. The candidate must have a strong team orientation and a proven track record of creativity, entrepreneurialism, and results.  

Specifically, he/she will have:  

  • Ph.D. or Masters in Physics, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Semiconductor Device Physics, or Materials Sciences.  
  • Strong technical expertise in Plasma/thermal with a track record of delivering products to market  
  • True hardware and applications product leader with deep insight into mechanical, RF design and their interaction with on-wafer results 
  • Demonstrated success in design for optimizing tool performance, defects, throughput, and cost of ownership 
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor device physics is strongly preferred.  
  • Experience in project management, R&D, innovation, business processes, and marketing. 
  • Solid business acumen, P&L and general management experience preferred  
  • Proven track record for building and managing high-performing teams
