Organization Summary

WomenVenture is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to empower women to achieve their economic goals by building profitable and sustainable businesses that transform communities. We execute on this mission through providing clients access to business capital, coaching, and community. Our core values are to make meaningful change, to engage with empathy, and to persist boldly, and we seek out candidates who exemplify these characteristics.

Why Volunteer

Support women and entrepreneurs from communities historically excluded from financial systems. Help small business owners strengthen their finances and move closer to accessing capital. Use your QuickBooks skills in a mission-driven, collaborative environment. Contribute to long-term economic stability and community wealth-building.

Role Overview

QuickBooks Education Volunteers help small business owners build confidence using QuickBooks and sound bookkeeping practices. Volunteers partner with WomenVenture’s Programs team to deliver accessible, practical education for growing small businesses ready to level up their accounting practices.
This is a teaching and coaching role, not a professional services role. Volunteers do not provide accounting, tax, or legal services. Volunteers will be matched to projects based on interest, experience, and availability and work closely with the Programs team. Some activities may be volunteer-led while others support staff-led programming.

Available Volunteer Roles:

Volunteers will be matched with one or more focus areas based on interest and experience

  1. Cohort-Based QuickBooks Trainer: Lead or co-facilitate WomenVenture’s monthly QuickBooks cohort training course using WomenVenture’s curriculum. Support participants through guided practice, discussion, and Q&A, and provide feedback on curriculum effectiveness. Training courses are held virtually in the evenings twice a month.
  2. 1:1 Client Coach: Provide educational coaching to help clients use QuickBooks or other bookkeeping systems, improve accounting habits, review books, understand trends, and prepare for future planning using a “teach-with”, not “do-for” approach. Coaching is typically held virtually during daytime hours, or as schedule allows for volunteer and coach.
  3. Tools & Resource Developer: Support the creation or improvement of client tools and learning resources such as tutorials, guides, or templates. This volunteer role work can be accomplished as schedule and time allows.

What You Bring

  • Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, finance, or related fields
  • Expertise with QuickBooks
  • Ability to explain financial concepts clearly and patiently
  • Supportive, collaborative communication style
  • Experience working with small businesses

Time Commitment & Onboarding

A six-month commitment is required. Approximately 4–6 hours per month. Orientation and onboarding are required before working with clients. WomenVenture will offer ongoing support and check-ins.

Boundaries of the Role

Volunteers do not file taxes or prepare official financial statements, provide legal, tax, or compliance advice, or serve as a client’s accountant or bookkeeper of record. All volunteer support is educational in nature.

Client Profile

WomenVenture is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) serving women and gender-diverse entrepreneurs (18+) in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin who have been traditionally underserved by mainstream financial systems. Many clients are low- to moderate-income, BIPOC and/or women entrepreneurs, early-stage or growing business owners, and not yet able to access traditional financing. Clients are motivated to strengthen their financial systems to build sustainable businesses and become better positioned to access capital.

Client Confidentiality

This position requires access to confidential client financial information. Strict confidentiality must be maintained. Completion of a confidentiality form and a background check is required.

Application Process

Interested applicants should submit their resume using the application link.
