The UNC Health Virtual Practice, operated by Virtual Care Services under UNC Health Medical Group, is a centralized virtual primary care service that offers same-day and next-day appointments to patients across North Carolina. The practice also includes Virtual Care Now, an on-demand virtual service that also serves as the NC Health Network Health Plan's virtual urgent care benefit. Virtual Practice operates 16 hours a day, 365 days a year, and serves both new and established UNC patients. Telehealth Patient Care Technician Operations is a vital support service for Virtual Care Services Primary Care and Inpatient Specialty programs that provides technical support and clinical care coordination and ensures a smooth, connected, high quality experience for staff and patients at 10 UNC hospitals and all 100 counties in North Carolina.ย

Summary:ย The Practice Manager III oversees daily operations for UNC Health Virtual Practice, including a team of 10+ providers, and Telehealth Patient Care Technician Operations. This role provides leadership for the day-to-day work of the virtual care team, collaborating with the Access Center and Nurse Connect on virtual front-end, triage, and scheduling workflows, and partnering with Virtual Care Services specialty leaders on inpatient operations. This leader demonstrates strong knowledge of Epic@UNC and ambulatory clinical and administrative workflows and applies that knowledge effectively in a virtual care environment. The Practice Manager III is proactive, uses data to inform decision-making, leads workflow development, operational improvement, and change management efforts, and helps ensure quality, performance, and productivity standards are met. The role ensures virtual care delivery is efficient, financially responsible, and consistently delivers exceptional patient experience and clinical outcomes.

Responsibilities:
1. Provides supervision and direction for administrative and clinical employees. Plans, assigns and directs work assignments ensuring adequate and efficient staffing. Interviews, hires, orients and trains employees; evaluates employee performance; rewards and disciplines employees.
2. Provides budgetary planning, implementation, monitoring and tracking of financial data. Provides financial reports on monthly and as needed basis.
3. Establishes clear open communications and builds positive relationships with patients, physicians, staff, director, and peers. Communicates on a regular basis with physicians, director and employees.
4. Develops and implements efficient and effective systems and processes. Analyses clinic functions to ensure that patient service and financial viability are the primary focus. Proactively develops systems and processes anticipating patient/internal/external customer needs.
5. Ensures appropriate ordering, receiving and utilization of all supplies and medications.
6. Identifies staff educational needs. Responsible for staff education and compliance with all safety procedures including conducting emergency drills on a periodic basis.
7. Develops, implements, administers, maintains policies and procedures consistent with the practice and the organization. Monitors and addresses compliance policies and procedures.
8. Coordinates, leads, and participates in the performance improvement activities for the practice. Ensures adherence/compliance with standards for such as OSHA, JCAHO, infection control, and safety and security protocols.
9. Evaluates and reports on periodic basis patient and staff satisfaction implementing programs/measures for maintenance and improvement. Addresses comments/complaints in a timely and effective manner.

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline. Five years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a physician office or outpatient setting. Two years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
If an Associate's degree: At least nine (9) years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in an outpatient/medical office setting. Two (2) years supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
If a high school or GED: At least thirteen (13) years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a physician office or outpatient. Two (2) years of supervisory experience required in a healthcare setting.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients and employees, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Spread sheet skills strongly preferred. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
