This is a remote position in which your responsibilities depend on the type of events you plan and the needs of each client. You provide an initial online consultation with clients to determine their needs and budget. You then design the party, wedding, meeting, or celebration, and coordinate with vendors to provide services. You also handle schedule planning. Some virtual event planners work online but go to the venue during the event, while others work solely online.

What are some common challenges virtual event planners face when coordinating online events, and how can they be addressed?

Virtual Event Planners often encounter challenges such as technical difficulties, attendee engagement, and coordinating with remote teams. To address these, it’s important to have contingency plans for tech issues, ensure all platforms are tested in advance, and use interactive tools (like polls or breakout rooms) to boost engagement. Regular communication with clients, speakers, and vendors is crucial for smooth collaboration, and staying organized with project management software can help keep everyone aligned. Being proactive and adaptable is key to overcoming these challenges and delivering successful virtual events.

Can you be a remote virtual event planner?

Yes, virtual event planners can work remotely, coordinating online events such as webinars, conferences, and meetings. They often use digital tools like event management software, video conferencing platforms, and project management apps to plan and execute events from any location.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual event planner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Event Planner, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in event coordination, often supported by a background in hospitality, marketing, or communications. Familiarity with virtual event platforms (such as Zoom, Hopin, or Webex), project management tools, and certification in event planning (like CMP or CSEP) is highly valuable. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability help you manage client needs and troubleshoot issues in real time. These skills ensure seamless event execution, high attendee engagement, and client satisfaction in a dynamic virtual environment.

Virtual event planners typically earn between $40,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of events managed. Experienced planners with certifications and strong technical skills can earn higher salaries, especially when working for larger organizations or as freelancers. As our Events and Field Manager, you will be the driving force behind our global event marketing strategy, creating memorable experiences that connect our brand with customers and prospects. You will manage all aspects of our virtual and in-person events, from large-scale industry trade shows to intimate regional gatherings. This role is ideal for a highly organized and energetic individual who is passionate about event logistics, promotion, and demonstrating the tangible impact of events on the sales pipeline.Responsibilities

  • Develop promotional plans, including account-based event tactics for named target accounts, that drive attendance, engagement, and follow-up readiness

  • Strong event planning and project management skills across budgets, logistics, vendors, timelines, staffing, and on-site/virtual execution
  • Experience with ABM/account-based event tactics and pipeline-attribution reporting (sourced vs. influenced)
  • Experience managing webinar/virtual event platforms and CRM or marketing automation integrations for lead capture, tracking, and follow-up
  • Disciplined about post-event lead handoff and sales follow-through, not just event execution
  • Comfort using AI tools for content generation, data analysis, and workflow automation
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and composed under live-event pressure, with strong vendor negotiation skills
  • Experience managing budgets across multiple concurrent events; willingness to travel for in-person events as required
