Position Summary
The English Department at Florissant Valley - St. Louis Community College is seeking adjunct instructors to teach for the 2026-2027 academic year. ****This is an onsite, in-person position located in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Candidates should apply only if they are able to be physically present and available to work onsite by the start date****STLCC is in search of DAY time adjunct faculty to teach introductory and college-level composition, creative writing, and/or literature courses. This posting is to create a STLCC District Wide pool of applicants for potential openings for various academic semesters throughout the year. We are primarily searching for adjunct faculty to teach face to face daytime classes on campus. However, with additional required training, there may be future opportunities to teach Online, Hybrid and Live Virtual Lecture courses.
Primary Duties Performed
Designs and teaches introductory and advanced English language courses, with an emphasis on college-level language literacy competencies; involved in interdisciplinary collaboration; and commits to ongoing program, course, and department assessment and evaluation. Other opportunities for an adjunct faculty may include committee work, ability to teach a flexible schedule, advising and/or mentoring students, and participation in the intellectual life of the department and college.
Adjunct Faculty may also be expected to:
  • Participate in required orientations, training, and instructional meeting.
  • Complete required compliance training, including but not limited to FERPA and Sexual Misconduct training.
  • Coordinate with department chairs, program coordinators, or full-time faculty regarding course content and expectations.
  • Implement department-approved textbooks, course materials, and assessment practices
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills in the instructional discipline.
  • Adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs within the scope of the assigned course(s).
  • The College reserves the right to assign other normal instructional responsibilities as may be appropriate for part-time faculty.
Skills:
Adjunct English instructors will prepare and teach introductory and college English classes to various student populations. You must be adaptable and proficient in using computer technology to present curricula in different modalities, primarily face -to-face, but potentially Live Virtual Lecture, Hybrid, and Online.
Qualifications/Experience
Master's degree in the subject field, MFA, or a master's degree with at least eighteen (18) approved graduate semester hours in the subject field and related fields.
Working Conditions
Commitment to technology in instruction; experience with unique learners; knowledge of current adult learning theories; prefer two years teaching experience at secondary or post-secondary levels; mentoring developmental, alternative learners; and the ability to effectively employ and interpret diagnostic techniques.
