We're seeking a future team member for the role ofย Vice President Database Engineer, to join our Wealth Services platform team. This role is located in New York, NY

In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:ย 

  • Lead implementation of scalable and robust Data engineering applications using Python, Spark, SQLย 
  • Maintain software functionality and currency (technical debt and gain).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver new features.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the full stack.
  • Partner with business and subject matter experts to define requirements and deliver strategic data solutions.
  • Execute the full software development lifecycle, applying security, privacy, and quality assurance best practices.ย Hands on coding experience is requiredย 
  • Actively participate in code reviews. Integrate software components into a fully functional software system.ย 
  • Apply security and privacy principles.ย 
  • Works with internal business groups on implementation opportunities, challenges, and requirements of various applications.ย 
  • Analyzes information and provides recommendations to address and resolve business issues for a specific business group.ย 
  • Guides and consults with IT management and technical staff regarding use of emerging technologies and associated services.ย 
  • Participates in defining corporate implementation and integration strategies for new technologies.ย 
  • Active learning engagement.ย 
  • Triage support of production issues that need engineering input for resolution.
  • Some experience or training leveraging AI tools (i.e. windsurf, codex, etc.) in the development process.ย 
  • Actively participates in sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
  • Deliver highquality, secure, and scalable features in iterative sprints
  • Estimate work using story points; contributes to capacity planning
  • Participate in all agile ceremonies; help refine backlog items to meet Definition of Ready
  • Maintain CI/CD pipelines with automated tests and security scans; promote frequent, small releases
  • Implement observability and respond to production issues

To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:ย 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required.ย 
  • 7-9 years of experience in software development required; experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.ย 
  • S/he must also have experience developing Oracle and Snowflake
  • Strong database experience with any relational database, including data modeling, query optimization and stored procedures.
  • Familiarity with containerization and cloud environments (e.g Docker and Kubernetes).
  • Understanding of CI/CD processes, code reviews and secure coding practices.ย 
  • Ability to work with APIs for integration and communication across systems.
  • Experience with scripting using Unix preferred.
  • Experience with messaging - Kafka is preferred.
  • Experience building a client facing reporting application is a plus

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $80,000 and $203,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.ย 
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
