ROLE HIGHLIGHTS
The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the shipping department to ensure orders are prepared, processed, and shipped accurately and on time. This hands-on role involves working closely with shipping staff and the operations team to improve workflow, maintain high standards of accuracy, and resolve any issues that arise. The Shipping Supervisor manages workloads, supports team productivity, and promotes quality and accountability. Success in this role requires strong knowledge of shipping methods and logistics, attention to detail, effective communication, leadership skills, and a focus on continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Oversee daily outbound shipping operations to ensure orders are shipped accurately, on time, and in accordance with customer, carrier, and quality requirements.
  • Plan and prioritize daily workflow based on order volume, customer commitments, shipping deadlines, carrier cutoffs, staffing, and operational needs.
  • Lead daily Shipping team operations by assigning work, monitoring productivity and quality, coaching employees, addressing performance and process issues, and supporting development.
  • Maintain a strong floor presence to proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks, shipping errors, quality concerns, aging orders, and other issues impacting customer commitments.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs, customer and carrier requirements, and quality standards by verifying order accuracy, packaging, labeling, routing, carrier selection, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, customers, and carriers to support efficient shipping operations and resolve outbound order issues.
  • Coordinate parcel, LTL, and FTL shipments, including carrier scheduling, pallet counts, documentation, and domestic and international shipping requirements.
  • Resolve shipping exceptions, carrier delays, freight claims, billing discrepancies, and service issues in collaboration with internal teams and carriers.
  • Train and cross-train employees on shipping systems, SOPs, quality, safety, and departmental standards while promoting urgency, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide backup support to the department Manager as needed.

Requirements
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control.
  • Knowledge of shipping platforms and logistics operations.
  • Knowledge of international shipping requirements and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn and navigate shipping, ERP, warehouse, and order management systems.
  • Experience using UPS, FedEx, and other parcel carrier shipping systems.
  • Experience coordinating LTL and FTL shipments, including bills of lading, pallet counts, freight classifications, pickups, and carrier communication.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrates reliability, accountability, and punctuality.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during the workday.
  • Pallet jack and/or forklift certification preferred; willingness to obtain certification if required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE COMPUTER SKILLS
  • High school diploma or GED required; College coursework or degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years of shipping, distribution, warehouse, or logistics experience, including team leadership or supervisory responsibilities, preferred.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
May be required to have a valid driver's license and meet Vantage Driver Approval requirements.
Licensed to operate a pallet jack and/or forklift preferred.
