Job description

At Horizon Hobby, we inspire dreams and help build memories! Our company is the leader in the global Radio Control industry. We are currently hiring a HR & Payroll Specialist based at our Global Headquarters in Champaign, IL!
Typical pay for this position is $55,000-75,000 annually. The final offer for this position will be based on the unique experience and qualifications of the candidate selected. This is a fully on-site, Monday-Friday, 8-5pm role at our Champaign, Illinois location.
As a key member of our Human Resources team, this role will be cross trained in multiple HR functions and will support work as needed throughout the department including special projects and other duties as assigned.
PAYROLL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide necessary support of timecard approvals for payroll.
  • Learn to process the biweekly U.S. payroll (400+ employees across 32+ states).
  • Provide records to third parties for processing monthly payrolls in Germany and the UK (50+ employees). Support China payroll as necessary (15+ employees)
  • Learn to process off-cycle bonus and commission payrolls as necessary.
  • Enter employee status changes in UKG.
  • Provide employees with necessary time clock training.
  • Assist employees in understanding PTO accruals, holidays, bereavement, jury duty benefits and answer related questions.
  • Maintain all personnel records and documentation - scanning into UKG.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Satisfactory performance includes but is not limited to:
  • Must ensure payroll, HR files, documentation, folders, binders, and databases are detailed, consistent, handled in a timely manner, kept up-to-date and most importantly, accurate.
  • Ongoing compliance with company policy and federal and state regulations.
  • Demonstrate a high level of discretion, confidentiality, and emotional intelligence.
  • Treat the customer, our employees, as a top priority.
  • Serve as a good teammate, providing any necessary support that is requested.
  • Be flexible with work schedule.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Preferably hold a bachelor's degree in HR or related field.
  • Seeking 2+ years' payroll experience, L&D a plus.
  • Must have experience with an HRIS system; UKG preferred.
  • Accounting experience a plus.
  • Experience handling Multi-state payroll.
  • Able to effectively use spreadsheet, word-processing and database software - UKG and PayScale highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization; Able to present him/herself in a professional and courteous manner, serving the needs of all internal and external customers effectively.
  • Able to work independently while ensuring that his/her manager is kept informed of the status of HR related issues.
  • Good judgment in working with people, maintaining an appropriate balance of representing the company and its policies but also being an advocate for the employees and their well being.
