Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Walsworth is seeking a User Experience Designer to join our world-class Technology team. Modern yearbook production demands powerful, easy-to-use, cloud-based software for student-driven design, journalism, marketing and sales. Join our nimble, empowered team driving the experience at Walsworth, one of the nation's largest and most-storied yearbook publishers.

The UX designer will define the directional and detailed user experience for a wide range of highly interactive web applications and software, delivered on desktop, mobile and tablet devices. The designer will engage in a multi-step process, including: wireframes, user flows, final designs, prototypes and specification documents.

This is a hybrid, salaried, exempt position based out of our Walsworth - Overland Park, Kansas, office. The schedule is 8 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.  Applicants must include a portfolio in their application to be considered.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position entails working with e-commerce, web applications and mobile apps

  • Create elegant user-centered designs by considering market analysis, user research and usability findings

  • Design the experience and interaction flow of new, cloud-based applications and desktop software

  • Quickly yet thoroughly create process flows, wireframes, and visual designs to conceptualize and communicate detailed interaction behaviors

  • Develop and maintain user interface specifications

  • Present design work to cross-functional teams and respond constructively to feedback

  • Assist with the execution of design research and usability testing

  • Work with the Technology team through planning, definition, design, development and testing phases to deliver intuitive, feature-rich software solutions.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must include a link to a work portfolio demonstrating user-centered design process and shipped digital products

  • 1-2 years of experience in a related role

  • Proficiency with Figma

  • Knowledge of accessibility guidelines (WCAG)

  • Experience working in Agile product development environments

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment (should we leave out because it sounds like we will over work the candidate?)

  • Experience using the Atlassian suite of products and working with a Tailwind based design system strongly preferred

  • Must be willing to submit to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and social media screening as part of our standard process

  • Must be willing to commute into the Walsworth - Overland Park office on a regular basis. This is a hybrid position.

  • U.S. work authorization is required. Walsworth does not offer employment sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in UX, Interaction Design or related design discipline

  • Portfolio of effective interface design work or outstanding portfolio in a related design discipline (we already have portfolio above?)

  • A strong understanding of visual design and how it can shape and influence user interfaces

  • Strong collaborative and organizational skills

  • Ability to articulate the why as well as the what

  • Dedication to detail and deadlines
