Job description

Position 

The Used Car Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the dealership’s used vehicle operations, including inventory management, appraisals, purchasing, merchandising, pricing, reconditioning, and sales performance. This role works closely with the sales and finance teams to maximize profitability, maintain appropriate inventory levels, and ensure an exceptional customer experience.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the dealership’s used vehicle inventory and maintain appropriate inventory levels based on market demand and dealership goals.
  • Appraise trade-in vehicles accurately and competitively.
  • Purchase used vehicles through auctions, wholesalers, private parties, and other sourcing channels.
  • Monitor market trends, vehicle pricing, and inventory aging to maximize profitability and turn rates.
  • Establish pricing strategies for used inventory using market-based tools and dealership guidelines.
  • Oversee reconditioning process to ensure vehicles are front-line ready in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Work with service and detail departments to prioritize vehicle readiness.
  • Ensure all used vehicles meet dealership quality and safety standards.
  • Manage online merchandising including vehicle photos, descriptions, and pricing accuracy.
  • Analyze sales reports, gross profit, aging reports, and inventory performance metrics.
  • Train, coach, and motivate sales staff on used vehicle processes and product knowledge.
  • Assist sales team with negotiations, desking deals, and closing customers when needed.
