Manager - Safety

Human Resources Department

Position Summary:

This role serves as the strategic leader for the Safety service line within SIA, responsible for aligning enterprise safety strategy with Subaru's business objectives, values, and ISO standards. The position provides executive oversight of safety governance, including the evolution of Safety Policies and Procedures, the prioritization of safety-related capital investments, and the continuous maturation of the ISO Occupational Health & Safety Management System. Through strong collaboration with SBR and internal stakeholders, the role drives global standardization of safety KPIs, enables consistent performance measurement and benchmarking, and informs executive decision-making through data-driven insights. By setting clear strategic direction, fostering cross-functional partnerships, and championing a proactive safety culture, this role ensures sustainable risk reduction, regulatory assurance, and long-term operational resilience across SIA.

Outline of duties:

  • Provides strategic leadership for the Safety service line within SIA, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives, Subaru values, regulatory expectations, and best practices.
  • Leads and develops a high-performing Safety leadership team, setting direction, expectations, and priorities to ensure consistent execution of safety strategy across operations.
  • Establishes and governs enterprise-wide Safety Policies and Procedures, driving continuous improvement, standardization, and alignment with evolving regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Oversees the maturity and continuous improvement of the ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System, ensuring robust governance, effective risk management, and sustained certification readiness.
  • Sets strategic priorities for safety risk mitigation and capital investments, ensuring resources are allocated to initiatives with the greatest impact on injury prevention, operational resilience, and long-term safety performance.
  • Guides enterprise-level safety performance analytics, leveraging trend data, leading indicators, and incident insights to inform executive decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Collaborates with SIA leadership to define and champion multi-year safety strategies and campaigns, fostering a proactive safety culture focused on prevention, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensures governance and oversight of regulatory compliance obligations, including audit frameworks and assurance processes, while delegating execution and administration to functional teams.
  • Provides executive-level reporting and recommendations on safety performance, emerging risks, system maturity, and investment outcomes to senior leadership.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships with Manufacturing, Engineering, HR, Maintenance, and Environmental peers to integrate safety considerations into business planning, operational changes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, Occupational Health, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Experience with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and/or similar regulations
  • Eight (8) years or more of relevant experience
  • Excellent managerial skills
  • Extensive knowledge of safety regulations and policies
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in inspections
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • Ability to foster teamwork and influence others

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in safety, Occupational Health, business administration or relevant field
  • CSP or similar certification
  • Experience working in a large-scale manufacturing facility
  • Previous management and/or supervisory experience
