The Long Products Division, Steel of West Virginia, has an immediate opening for a Payroll Specialist. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing and processing payroll weekly to ensure that our employees receive correct and timely compensation, preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, preparing and analyzing reports, and other duties as identified by the Supervisor.
Responsibilities
  • Managing and processing payroll weekly for 700+ employees;
  • Communicating with all levels of management and all employees regarding pay and benefits;
  • Preparing and analyzing reports in UKG payroll software, as well as Excel;
  • Processing voluntary and involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments;
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information;
  • Writing, proposing, and posting journal entries;
  • Reconciling general and subledger accounts by gathering and balancing information;
  • Maintain accounting controls by following policies and procedures in addition to complying with federal, state, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance;
  • Support accounting functions, as needed;
  • Special projects and additional duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • At least a 4-year degree in accounting or business (or related experience);
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel;
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team with excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to execute and follow through to completion and documentation;

We operate using a circular manufacturing model, producing lower-carbon-emission, quality steel using electric arc furnace (EAF) technology with recycled ferrous scrap as the primary input.
