Job Description
Johnson County Wastewater is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Treatment Assistant Superintendent. This position supervises staff and coordinates with other supervisors to ensure the operation and maintenance of their assigned wastewater treatment plant. This position works in a team based industrial environment with a mission of protecting the environment, serving our customers, and enhancing our communities.
Essiential Functions:
  • Coordinates, monitors, and assigns staff in the daily operations to ensure compliance with state regulations.
  • Analyzes daily and weekly data and provides status reports of operations and maintenance for superintendent review.
  • Makes purchases of supplies and equipment for continuance of plant operations.
  • Coordinates schedules to ensure staffing levels are maintained to provide continuation of plant operations and compliance with state regulations.
  • Arranges staff schedules to provide for staff development in operation, mechanical and technical areas.
  • Monitors staff performance and provides coaching and feedback for staff improvement.
  • Coordinates and leads tours for interested public which includes and is not limited to students and adults for educational purposes.
  • Assists customers and general public by providing information regarding general operation of facility.

Job Requirements
Minimum Requirments:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • five years of experience in mechanical, maintenance, or relevant industrial or field based work required.
  • One year of experience leading, directing, coordinating, or supervising the work of others
  • one year of experience in the operations and maintenance of a wastewater treatment or collection system is preferred.
  • Education can substitute for experience.
  • Preference given to experience in a water or wastewater environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in Environmental Sciences or related field
  • Class IV KDHE Wastewater Operators License.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:
This safety sensitive position involves the following:
  • lifting of 50 pounds
  • exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, chemicals, heights, loud noises, and sewage.
