Horizons Youth Services at Milwaukee Job Corps Center provides innovative, quality educational and job training programs to enable young people to succeed in today's competitive job market and keep pace with the ever-changing dynamics of our worldwide economy.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Social Development Manager to lead student growth and development at our residential trade school, focusing on fostering a supportive and positive environment for our students.

Job Summary: Directs staff engaged in providing residential and recreation services for all students and ensures programs and standards meet all DOL, PRH, Center, and corporate requirements.

Duties:
  • Provides direct supervision of recreation manager/supervisor and residential supervisors, ensuring departmental expectations are understood, by conducting applicant interviews, trainings, staff meetings, supervisor meetings, student meetings, evaluations, and individual coaching sessions.
  • Ensures standard official training and evaluations are completed for all department staff, in a timely manner, and appropriate final documentation is submitted on schedule.
  • Collaborates with the wellness department to ensure the standard processes for dealing with student medical and/or mental health issues are followed carefully.
  • Ensures the flow of communication, regarding critical student information, is continual and well documented, from the training day to the afternoon shifts in both residential and recreation, to each consecutive shift thereafter, and finally back to the appropriate program staff for the beginning of the next training day.
  • Emphasizes the necessity for staff and students to maintain excellent organization, cleanliness, and sanitation throughout the assigned areas, verified by regular inspection procedures and accountability documentation for both staff and students.
  • Encourages staffs' continual engagement with students by emphasizing mobility in monitoring and mentoring, to include becoming familiar with each student's name, his/her program progress, his/her strengths and/or talents, and particular roadblocks where special assistance may be needed.
  • Initiates strategies to develop a strong leadership program throughout the residential and recreation areas, with consistent emphasis on student leadership opportunities, student leadership training/development, and student leadership incentives.
  • Maintains accountability of students by following standard operating procedures, including regular room and area checks, specific minor student checks, nightly accountability reports, and by providing daily reports to the student records office.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the individual's scope and capabilities.
Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Strong management and leadership skills required.

Experience:

One year's supervisory experience required and two years' experience working with youth.

Education:

Post-secondary degree and two years' experience working with youth. Bachelor's degree in social services or related field preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

A Valid State Drivers' License.
