Job description

The PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee position with the Department of Transportation gives you the chance to learn important skills while supporting safe and reliable highways. This trainee role helps you grow into a certified equipment operator through hands-on experience.

It is a strong first step toward a meaningful public service career. Check out this video for more information. DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position supports highway and bridge maintenance by training to operate equipment and complete manual labor tasks.

As a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Training: Learn to operate heavy trucks, loaders, and other equipment used in highway and bridge maintenance Safety Practices: Follow safety procedures and use protective equipment to maintain a secure work environment Manual Labor Tasks: Carry out maintenance activities using both motorized and non-motorized tools Equipment Care: Complete pre- and post-operation checks and make basic field adjustments to support safe usage Environmental Duties: Participate in required environmental training and support unit goals related to environmental practices Interested in learning more. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal and operational needs. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $42,347.00 (before taxes)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Special Requirements: Possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.

All employees must possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work. All positions require employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of work. Additional Requirement: You must be able to perform essential job functions.
