Job description

The University of Saint Mary is conveniently located a short 30 minutes’ drive from Parkville, Shawnee, Basehor and Kansas City, Kansas. THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY:

The University of Saint Mary is a Roman Catholic, liberal arts university located in Leavenworth, Kansas, just 25 minutes away from Kansas City. USM serves about 1,400 students at its main campus in Leavenworth, its satellite location in Overland Park, as well as online.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Serve as assistant swim coach during Fall, Winter and Spring seasons, while participating in the Graduate Assistantship program at USM.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee the conduct, discipline and positive character development of student-athletes by using the guidelines and principles of the USM Mission and the NAIA Champions of Character initiative.
  • Teach and promote the USM Mission values of community, respect, justice and excellence. Promote the team ideals of Scholarship, Leadership, and Sportsmanship.
  • Assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes. Responsible for administering NAIA, KCAC and USM policies pertaining to recruitment and student-athlete eligibility.
  • Counsel student-athletes in personal development and academic success. Assist in the facilitation and monitoring of academic study time with student-athletes.
  • Coordinate the use of the pool and training facilities.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of home swim meets.
  • Assist in the preparation of practice and meet planning. Assists with directing the conditioning of student athletes to achieve maximum athletic performance.
  • Conduct workouts with the student-athletes.
  • Assist with transportation to and from meets.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork for institution, conference, and national deadlines.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts.
  • Assist sport program with duties assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Head Coach.
  • Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • 4 Years of Collegiate Swimming Experience
  • Working and/or player knowledge of NCAA, NAIA or KCAC rules and regulations preferred.
  • Our goal is to find a Graduate Assistant Coach with the desire and ability to contribute to the developing Swim program while maintaining an environment of learning and growth for the student athletes and the Graduate Assistant Coach.
  • Valid and current driver's license and insurance with the ability to drive a 15-passenger van.
