Job description

Payroll Specialist (Temporary – 6 Month Assignment) Location: Florham Park, NJ Duration: 6-Month Temporary Assignment (Leave Coverage) About the Role We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our accounting team on a 6-month temporary basis to provide coverage during an employee leave. This is a hands-on role responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll for approximately 300 employees within a lean, collaborative accounting department. The ideal candidate will be able to step in quickly, work independently, and ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities Process semi-monthly payroll for approximately 300 employees (employee count decreases seasonally during summer months) Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, including taxes, deductions, and benefit withholdings Maintain payroll records and support payroll-related reporting and reconciliations Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies Work closely with the accounting team to support payroll operations and compliance Follow established payroll procedures while maintaining a high level of accuracy and efficiency Qualifications Required: Full-cycle payroll processing experience for a similar employee population Ability to quickly learn the environment and operate independently after a short ramp-up period Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Good working knowledge in Excel Preferred: Experience working in a nonprofit, educational, or school environment Ideal Candidate Sharp, dependable payroll professional who can contribute immediately Recent payroll experience with a stable work history Strong references and reputation for reliability and accuracy Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and meeting strict payroll deadlines Additional Information 6-month temporary assignment covering an employee leave Located in Florham Park, NJ Interview process will move quickly for qualified candidates Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
