Position Summary
TheDepartment of Special Education seeks to hire temporary part-time faculty toteach graduate and undergraduate courses in Special Education.
TheDepartment of Special Education is committed to addressing issues ofsignificant educational importance to individuals with disabilities. We aim to increasethe number of highly qualified and fully credentialed special educationprofessionals who will provide services to children and adults with disabilitiesthroughout the state of New Mexico and beyond.
Positionsare contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment,course offering, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may befilled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to add ordrop classes. Candidates who areselected for these positions will report to the Special Education Department Chair.
Applicantsare encouraged to indicate which semester they prefer to teach. These positionswill remain open until they are filled.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: The minimum qualifications must be consistent with Higher Learning Commission standards and compliant with the faculty hiring guidelines.
  • Master's in Special Education or a closely related field.
  • Minimum three years of experience working with individuals with disabilities

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD or terminal degree in the area related to the course.
  • Scholarly work in an area relevant to the course.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching PreK-12.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching adult learners.
  • Robust formal academic preparation in working with individuals with disabilities in inclusive settings.
  • Extensive experience working with individuals with a wide range of special education needs in inclusive settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reside in New Mexico.
  • Successful experience teaching courses using a variety of teaching modalities (such as face-to-face, hybrid, and online)
    Licensure or certification in related areas, e.g., teaching, BCBA, EDAG, leadership/administration.
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate anunderstanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the successof the University's mission to serve local and global communities
