Grants Accountant - Temp-to-Perm

Location: New York, NY 10017

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM (37.5 hours/week)

Work Arrangement: Hybrid - 2 days onsite / 3 days remote

Compensation: $40/hour - $45/hour | $80,000-$90,000 upon conversion

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established nonprofit healthcare organization in New York City, is seeking a Grants Accountant to join their accounting team. This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional with strong grants experience who is looking for a role with the potential to become permanent. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with grant accounting, government/federal grants, month-end close, and general accounting. Federal grant experience is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the full month-end close process
  • Review payroll reports, expenses, and General Ledger activity
  • Prepare journal entries, reclassifications, and account reconciliations
  • Prepare invoices and support grant billing and reimbursement
  • Manage A/R and revenue recognition
  • Monitor grant spending and ensure compliance with grant requirements
  • Reconcile grant accounts and review financial activity
  • Support grant budgets, budget modifications, reporting, and audits
  • Review and approve invoices as needed
  • Work with internal teams to ensure accurate grant financial reporting
  • Apply FTE calculations and other grant-specific requirements
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of grants accounting experience
  • Federal or government grant experience highly preferred
  • Nonprofit accounting experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of grant billing, reimbursement, revenue recognition, and compliance
  • Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, A/R, debits/credits, and reclassifications
  • Strong Excel and accounting systems experience
  • Workday experience is a plus
  • NYC and/or New York State grant experience is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
