Temporary Grants Accountant This is a
temporary, one-year appointment with the potential for extension based on institutional needs.

Primary Purpose/General DescriptionReporting to the Senior Grant Accountant, the Grant Accountant assists the Office of Finance and Administration in all grant monitoring administration, compliance, grant accounting, and financial reports of awarded grants through their final closing.
Description of Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential FunctionsGrant accounting:
- Review invoices, requisitions and expense reports for appropriate spend categories
- Review transactions for compliance with University, State and Federal compliance
- Reconcile grant activity as recorded in Workday against subsidiary ledgers
- Research the causes of errors noted during the reconciliation process
- Review award for reporting and spending restrictions.
- Determine appropriate indirect cost base and rate.
- Ensure indirect cost rates and cost basis have been applied in accordance with grant agreement
Grants' assistance:
- Assist with grant subaward monitoring and compliance.
- Assist in meetings with Principal Investigator/Budget Officer (PI/BO) when grant is awarded to review responsibilities for grant management and reporting.
- Assist in subsequent meetings to maintain communication throughout and at the conclusion of the grant.
- Assist Principal Investigator/Budget Officer complete effort reporting
- Assist Principal Investigator/Budget Officer complete required financial reporting.
Reporting:
- Provide monthly grant expense reports to Principal Investigators (PI) and Budget Officers.(BO)
- Periodically update PI/BO on available grant funds.
- Prepare funding draws from Federal Agencies (DOE, NIH, NSF).
- Prepare/coordinate with other offices for required annual, semi-annual, and quarterly reports for State, Federal and private Agencies.
- Submit final financial reports within sponsor designated deadlines.
- Provide grant data for annual and ad hoc audits.
Close grants: Carry out grant closing reconciliation and corrections.
Provide compliance assistance:
- Assist in the University's communication and education of the applicable policies and regulations relating to State, Federal and private grants.
- Assist in the maintenance of resources for compliance.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel, Outlook and Word)
- Ability to communicate processes and procedures required of PI for grant administration and management.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, to anticipate information needs of faculty and staff relating to grants, and to respond to new/ambiguous situations with tact and judgement.
- Must possess a high level of accuracy and be detail oriented.
- Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to learn new software and technologies quickly.
Preferred CriteriaIn addition to the above prerequisites, the ideal candidate enjoys working collaboratively with staff and faculty and enjoys customer service-related experiences.
Qualification StandardsEDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or Finance or any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability.
EXPERIENCE: One to five years' experience in accounting and/or grants and sponsored programs plus analytical ability and PC fluency including extensive knowledge of Excel. Experience in higher education is preferred.

HOURS:The regular hours for this position are 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hours may vary due to needs of the University or department. Must be willing to work rotating shifts and overtime as needed.
