Job description

Hoxton Circle consulting has partnered with a client on the Monterey Peninsula that needs immediate assistance on their finance team to manage grants from the state. The role will have a blend of Finance and Accounting involved and the position will run 2-3 months contract-temporary through Hoxton Circle. The job is 5-days onsite and there will be medical benefits during the temporary phase and an opportunity to interview with the client for the permanent long-term position and be retained on with the client.

Duties:

  • Provides post award administrative support including, account establishment, expenditure approvals, financial detail and reporting requirement information.
  • Monitors for allowability on contracts, internal controls and compliance management.
  • Participate in award set-up meetings with the principal investigators and pre-award Sponsored Programs Office to gain a full understanding of the criteria and requirements necessary to manage each award.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of post-award operational and administrative policies.
  • Enter journal entries and budgets and coordinate monthly analysis of variances in indirect cost allocations.
  • Setup and monitor Cost Share, including maintenance of cost share effort by semester.
  • Facilitate office hours, trainings and workshops for the department and campus community.
  • After evaluating a wide variety of financial and administrative issues formulate alternative solutions and make recommendations for changes.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal regulations
  • Provide financial reports to Principal Investigators and other responsible parties as needed/requested.
  • Monitor over/under-spending on projects and notify responsible parties of any issues.
  • Assist with agency and accounting audits of grants and contracts.
  • Supports developing, implementing, improving, and enforcing, policies, and department controls to increase accuracy and efficiency.

Skills/Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of financial record-keeping methods, procedures, and practices.
  • Working knowledge of governmental accounting methods and related laws, government regulations, cost principles and administrative requirements applicable to grants like, but not limited to, FAR, CFR, and other research compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with F&A costs, assessing these costs, and verifying F&A cost rate calculations.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and recommendations regarding grant budget activities.
  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree and 5 years of contract and grant administration or work experience at an institution of higher education; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
