What is a temporary chief growth officer?

A Temporary Chief Growth Officer (CGO) is a senior executive hired on a short-term or interim basis to drive a company's growth initiatives. This role focuses on strategies to increase revenue, expand market share, and improve customer acquisition, often during periods of transition or rapid change. Temporary CGOs are typically brought in to fill a leadership gap or to lead specific projects while a permanent executive is sought. They collaborate across departments such as marketing, sales, and product development to align growth objectives. Their expertise helps organizations accelerate growth while maintaining operational stability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary chief growth officer?

To thrive as a Temporary Chief Growth Officer, you need a proven track record in business development, strategic planning, and revenue growth, typically supported by an advanced degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms, analytics tools, and performance tracking systems is crucial for driving and measuring growth initiatives. Exceptional leadership, adaptability, and strong communication skills help align teams and quickly execute strategies within limited timeframes. These competencies are vital to rapidly identify opportunities, implement impactful solutions, and achieve measurable results during the interim period.

What are some common challenges faced by a temporary chief growth officer when integrating into an existing executive team?

A Temporary Chief Growth Officer (CGO) often faces the challenge of quickly understanding the company's culture, market position, and existing growth strategies while building trust with the executive team. Since the role is interim, balancing the urgency of delivering results with the need to align stakeholders can be demanding. Effective communication and collaboration are essential, as the CGO must gather support from various departments, such as sales, marketing, and product, to implement growth initiatives. Additionally, the temporary nature of the position requires the CGO to prioritize high-impact projects and ensure a smooth handover to permanent leadership.

Sprig Oral Health Technologies is an innovative medical device company advancing pediatric dentistry with products, education, and customer experiences designed to make a positive difference. You will join a collaborative, energetic team that cares deeply about its work, its customers, and better oral health for the next generation.

As Chief Growth Officer, you will have the opportunity to shape how Sprig reaches customers, enters markets, launches solutions, and scales for the future.

What We Offer
  • Competitive benefit and executive compensation package
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid vacation package (PTO)
  • Nine company paid holidays
  • Employee Assistance Program with free mental health services
  • Wellness program, onsite personal trainer, and optional lunchtime workouts
  • A friendly, engaging company culture
  • A modern office near I-80 with free onsite parking

The salary includes a base annual salary plus bonus/incentive plan.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a strategic, hands-on executive to lead Sprig's entire growth ecosystem. In this high-impact role, you will own the end-to-end revenue engineโ€”from awareness and demand generation through sales, onboarding, customer success, retention, expansion, and international growth.

You will translate company strategy into clear priorities, measurable goals, operating rhythms, and smart investment decisions. You will also bring Revenue Operations, Customer Success, Sales, Marketing, Clinical Education, Events, Digital Marketing, E-Commerce, and International Growth together as one coordinated team.

This is an ideal opportunity for a growth leader who combines commercial vision, operational discipline, financial stewardship, and a passion for developing high-performing teams.

What You'll Do
  • Own the revenue lifecycle: Build a profitable, predictable, and scalable engine across customer acquisition, conversion, onboarding, retention, expansion, and revenue growth.
  • Set the growth strategy: Establish annual, quarterly, and monthly objectives, KPIs, operating rhythms, and accountability across customer-facing teams.
  • Lead an integrated department: Align Revenue Operations, Customer Success, Sales, the SDR function, Marketing, Events, Clinical Education, Digital Marketing, E-Commerce, and International Growth.
  • Develop people and structure: Strengthen leadership capability, succession plans, talent pipelines, organizational design, and a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Use data to guide decisions: Improve forecasting, dashboards, analytics, business intelligence, resource allocation, and strategic planning.
  • Scale commercialization and markets: Lead launches, channel development, customer acquisition strategies, and domestic and international expansion.
  • Drive operational excellence: Improve cross-functional planning and execution while keeping projects aligned with company priorities.
  • Steward investments: Own the Growth Department budget, partner with Finance on forecasts, and prioritize people, technology, programs, and initiatives based on impact and return.
  • Partner across the business: Work closely with Operations, Finance, Clinical, Product Development, and executive leadership to achieve company goals.
Your Leadership Scope

You will provide executive oversight for the full Growth Department, including Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success, while helping determine the organizationโ€™s future needs in Revenue Operations, analytics, data science, digital marketing, international support, and growth leadership.

Work Setting

This is a full-time, onsite executive leadership role based in the Sacramento region. Travel is required as needed to support customers, distributors, and company initiatives.

What You Bring - Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, Management, Finance, or a related field; MBA preferred
  • At least 10 years of progressive executive leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success building and executing annual revenue plans of at least $20 million
  • Experience leading growth in entrepreneurial, founder-led, or growth-stage organizations
  • Experience overseeing multiple customer-facing functions within one organization
  • A record of building high-performing teams and developing leaders
  • Strong forecasting, strategic planning, and business management capabilities
  • Experience developing and managing multi-million-dollar departmental budgets
  • Proven ability to prioritize investments and deliver measurable returns
  • Experience partnering with Finance and executive leadership on plans, forecasts, and resource allocation
Experience That Will Help You Stand Out
  • Medical device, dental, healthcare, or healthcare-adjacent industry experience
  • International commercial leadership experience
  • Experience supporting multiple distribution models
  • Experience building Revenue Operations, analytics, or business intelligence functions
  • Experience scaling an organization through a significant growth phase
