Entry-Level Drafter - Distribution DesignLaunch Your Career Designing the Systems That Deliver Power to Communities

Are you an early-career Drafter looking to break into electric distribution design? This is an opportunity to grow your technical skills while working on real-world projects that keep communities connected and powered. You'll join a collaborative, employee-focused organization that invests in training, mentorship, and long-term career growth-giving you a strong foundation for a future in engineering and infrastructure design.

What You'll Do

As a Drafter supporting distribution projects, you'll assist engineers and lead designers in preparing high-quality drawings for overhead and underground distribution systems. You'll gain hands-on experience with industry standards, utility requirements, and CAD tools while contributing to impactful projects from day one.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing distribution design drawings using standardized drafting techniques based on engineer sketches, markups, and verbal direction.
  • Develop and modify drawings for electric distribution systems, including plan and profile views, equipment layouts, and related schematics.
  • Apply company, client, and project standards to produce accurate and consistent drawing packages.
  • Compile initial drawings, calculations, and design information into complete models for engineering review.
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, and project managers to understand design intent and project requirements.
  • Incorporate engineering redlines and execute drawing revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with drafters and designers across multiple disciplines to support integrated designs.
  • Continue developing CAD skills with coaching, training, and exposure to advanced tools.

What You Bring

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Working knowledge of CAD fundamentals and drafting techniques
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn

Preferred (Not Required) Qualifications

  • Experience or coursework related to utility, electrical, or distribution design
  • Exposure to MicroStation
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, Revit, and/or Civil 3D
  • Associate of Science in Drafting or Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology

Why This Is a Great Place to Start Your Career

  • Early-career support: Learn directly from experienced engineers and designers through mentoring and on-the-job training.
  • Clear growth paths: Build technical expertise and open doors to advanced drafting, design, or engineering roles.
  • Employee-focused culture: You're supported, valued, and encouraged to ask questions and contribute ideas.
  • Meaningful work: Be part of projects that strengthen power delivery and serve communities nationwide.
  • Exposure to real projects: Gain experience on a wide variety of distribution projects instead of repetitive, isolated tasks.

Work Environment

You'll work in a team-oriented design environment alongside engineers, project managers, and fellow drafters, using modern CAD systems to support distribution design projects. The role emphasizes communication, collaboration, and continuous learning-making it an ideal fit for candidates early in their career.
