What is a temp company?

A temp company, also known as a temporary staffing agency, connects employers with workers for short-term or project-based positions. These agencies help businesses fill workforce gaps due to employee absences, seasonal workloads, or special projects. For job seekers, temp companies provide opportunities to gain experience, earn income, and potentially transition into permanent roles. Temp companies handle recruitment, payroll, and employment paperwork, making the process easier for both employers and employees.

What are some common challenges faced when working for a temp company, and how can I prepare for them?

Working for a temp company often means adapting quickly to new environments, teams, and job responsibilities. Some common challenges include learning new systems on short notice, managing uncertainty regarding assignment length, and building rapport with permanent staff. To succeed, it's helpful to maintain a flexible mindset, communicate clearly with both the temp agency and on-site supervisors, and be proactive about seeking feedback. Being reliable and adaptable can lead to more assignment opportunities and even permanent placements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Temp Agency Recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temp Agency Recruiter, you need strong talent sourcing, interviewing, and job matching skills, often supported by experience in human resources or staffing. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), job boards, and resume databases is typically required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and relationship-building skills help recruiters connect clients with the right candidates quickly. These abilities are crucial for efficiently filling temporary positions and maintaining positive client and candidate experiences in a fast-paced environment.

Job Summary:
CT Mechanical is seeking a skilled and experienced Journeyman Pipefitter to join our team. As a Journeyman Pipefitter, you will play a critical role in installing, assembling, and maintaining mechanical piping systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team. This role requires a high level of expertise in managing complex piping systems for large-scale commercial projects, and the ability to mentor apprentices as part of the team.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications, system operation knowledge, and building plans/working drawings.
โ€ข Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and minimize pipe cutting.
โ€ข Thread and bend pipe by hand or with a pipe bending machine.
โ€ข Assemble and join piping using methods such as threaded, chalked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
โ€ข Secure pipes to structures with clamps, brackets, and hangers using hand tools.
โ€ข Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges.
โ€ข Interpret blueprints and building specifications to map layout for pipes, drainage systems, and other plumbing materials.
โ€ข Ensure compliance with all safety standards and building codes.
โ€ข Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure adherence to project timelines and specifications.
โ€ข Provide guidance and supervision to apprentices and less experienced pipefitters.
โ€ข Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
Role Requirements:
โ€ข High school diploma or GED and 4 or more years of related experience in the field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
โ€ข Proven experience in installing, assembling, fabricating, maintaining, and repairing mechanical piping systems.
โ€ข Extensive experience with both copper and steel pipefitting in commercial environments.
โ€ข Ability to gain access to state and federal institutions.
โ€ข Preferred: 5 years of experience in copper and steel pipefitting.
โ€ข Must pass a drug test and background check.
โ€ข OSHA 10 certification required.
โ€ข OSHA 30 certification preferred.
โ€ข Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
โ€ข Excellent hand-eye coordination and physical fitness.
โ€ข Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
โ€ข Strong communication skills and ability to work well with a team.
โ€ข Experience with large-scale commercial or industrial mechanical piping projects is a plus.
Company Culture:
At CT Mechanical, we foster a culture of excellence, integrity, and customer-centric service.
