What is a temp company?

A temp company, also known as a temporary staffing agency, connects employers with workers for short-term or project-based positions. These agencies help businesses fill workforce gaps due to employee absences, seasonal workloads, or special projects. For job seekers, temp companies provide opportunities to gain experience, earn income, and potentially transition into permanent roles. Temp companies handle recruitment, payroll, and employment paperwork, making the process easier for both employers and employees.

What are some common challenges faced when working for a temp company, and how can I prepare for them?

Working for a temp company often means adapting quickly to new environments, teams, and job responsibilities. Some common challenges include learning new systems on short notice, managing uncertainty regarding assignment length, and building rapport with permanent staff. To succeed, it's helpful to maintain a flexible mindset, communicate clearly with both the temp agency and on-site supervisors, and be proactive about seeking feedback. Being reliable and adaptable can lead to more assignment opportunities and even permanent placements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Temp Agency Recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temp Agency Recruiter, you need strong talent sourcing, interviewing, and job matching skills, often supported by experience in human resources or staffing. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), job boards, and resume databases is typically required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and relationship-building skills help recruiters connect clients with the right candidates quickly. These abilities are crucial for efficiently filling temporary positions and maintaining positive client and candidate experiences in a fast-paced environment.

How do I get hired by a temp company?

To get hired by a temp company, you should submit an application online or in person, highlighting relevant skills and work experience. Many temp agencies require a resume, interview, and sometimes skills assessments or background checks before placement. Job description

About Us

Comfort Temp Company has been a trusted leader in Florida’s mechanical construction industry for decades, delivering high-quality HVAC and sheet metal solutions across commercial and industrial markets. With offices in Gainesville, Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa, we are built on family values, craftsmanship, accountability, and long-term relationships.

At Comfort Temp, we believe our people are the foundation of our success. We invest in skilled tradespeople who take pride in their work, support their teammates, and are committed to delivering quality workmanship every day.

Job Summary

Comfort Temp Company is seeking an experienced Journeyman Sheet Metal Fabricator to join our growing Orlando team. This position is responsible for independently performing skilled sheet metal fabrication work for commercial HVAC projects, including ductwork fabrication, assembly, fitting, and finishing.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with commercial duct fabrication, shop machinery, fabrication drawings, and industry standards. This individual should be capable of working independently, producing accurate and quality work, and helping less-experienced team members when needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fabricate and assemble commercial HVAC ductwork according to fabrication drawings, specifications, and SMACNA standards.
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, duct layouts, dimensions, and fabrication details.
  • Operate sheet metal fabrication equipment including coil lines, shears, brakes, Pittsburgh machines, snap lock machines, and TDC equipment.
  • Perform TDC corner installation, DM frame installation, and drive turning operations.
  • Perform duct lining, insulation, sealing, and finishing operations as required.
  • Operate and utilize Trimble plasma software and related fabrication technology.
  • Cut, form, fit, and prepare miscellaneous sheet metal and metals for commercial mechanical projects.
  • Verify dimensions, materials, and finished products for accuracy and quality.
  • Identify fabrication issues and make appropriate adjustments to ensure proper fit and installation.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas and properly care for shop equipment and tools.
  • Follow company safety procedures and applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Assist with training and provide technical guidance to apprentices and less-experienced fabricators.
  • Communicate effectively with shop personnel, field crews, supervisors, and project management.
  • Meet production schedules and maintain consistent productivity without sacrificing workmanship.
  • Perform other fabrication-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 5+ years of commercial or industrial sheet metal fabrication experience.
  • Journeyman-level proficiency in commercial duct fabrication and sheet metal shop operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of sheet metal fabrication equipment and processes.
  • Ability to independently fabricate and assemble commercial ductwork from drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of SMACNA standards and accepted duct fabrication practices.
  • Experience with TDC corners, DM frames, drive turning, duct lining, and sealing.
  • Experience with Trimble plasma software preferred.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret fabrication drawings and dimensions.
  • Strong understanding of measurements, material selection, and fabrication tolerances.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to safely operate shop machinery and maintain required production standards.
  • Must possess required hand tools, including snips, tongs, hammer, tape measure, and battery-powered tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Clean background required.
What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a true journeyman-level fabricator who can step into the shop and be productive with minimal direction. You should be comfortable working from drawings, operating fabrication machinery, troubleshooting fitment issues, and taking ownership of the quality of your work.

Experience mentoring apprentices or less-experienced fabricators is a plus, but this is primarily a hands-on fabrication position, not a supervisory role.

Company Culture

At Comfort Temp Company, our core values drive everything we do:

  • Do what you say
  • Do what it takes
  • Walk with purpose
  • Do the right thing

We are committed to building a culture centered around teamwork, integrity, accountability, and professional growth.
