Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
  • Create, test, continuously monitor, and improve upon new and existing network configurations.
  • Lead collaboration with the network planning team on testing of new products and features.
  • Continuously measure and optimize the performance, effectiveness, and uptime of mission critical systems.
  • Ensure data, software, hardware, and infrastructure protection by planning and implementing appropriate network security controls.
  • Track, research, and recommend software upgrades for existing programs and systems.
  • Document network management processes and automate repetitive tasks.
  • Design, improve and execute disaster recovery operations when required.
  • Advocate for security and performance standards in the organization.
  • Perform other duties and/or contribute to various projects working with minimal supervision, including helping other departments and team members, as directed by supervisor or department head to meet company and departmental goals.
  • Design, provision, and support internet (DIA), Ethernet transport (Metro E and MPLS), and SDWAN network services for business customers.
  • Work with other engineering teams to implement complex network changes.
  • Proactively identify, research, and recommend solutions for trending customer issues.
  • Own troubleshooting and maintenance of complex networks, systems, applications, security, and services, and serve as an escalation point for NOC team members.
  • Provide ongoing guidance, mentorship, and technical development to junior and mid-level network engineers, contributing to succession planning and team capability growth.
  • Communicate with vendors and other departments to coordinate outage recovery/resolution.

Required Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of network theory and protocols, including OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, BFD, MPLS, and VXLAN; with deep hands-on expertise in Cisco IOS-XR architecture, including segment routing (SR-MPLS), traffic engineering, and XR-specific CLI, configuration management, and troubleshooting workflows.
  • Advanced knowledge of underlay/overlay networking concepts, including L2/L3 VPN, MPLS L3VPN (VRFs, MP-BGP), and EVPN; ability to design, provision, and troubleshoot end-to-end MPLS-based service delivery across a carrier network.
  • Hands-on experience with carrier QoS, including MPLS EXP-based classification and marking, DiffServ traffic classes, and hierarchical QoS (HQoS) policy design.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet service OAM, including connectivity fault management (CFM, IEEE 802.1ag) and performance monitoring for service assurance on Metro Ethernet and EVPN services.
  • Solid working knowledge of cybersecurity principles, attack vectors, and defensive techniques, with demonstrated application in network and system hardening.
  • Proficiency in Python for network automation, tooling development, and data-driven operational workflows, including experience with libraries such as Netmiko, NAPALM, Nornir, and Requests.
  • Proficiency in shell scripting (e.g., Bash) for automation and system maintenance.
  • Must have an obsessive attention to detail when authoring technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and SOPs for operational teams.
  • 5+ years' experience installing, configuring, and securing Cisco IOS-XE/IOS-XR, Ciena, and Calix networks; with demonstrated Cisco IOS-XR expertise including router platform management (ASR 9K, NCS 540/5500 series), model-driven telemetry, gRPC/NETCONF, and large-scale MPLS/segment routing deployments.
  • 5+ years' hands-on experience designing, operating, and troubleshooting MPLS networks in a carrier or service provider environment, including L2VPN, L3VPN, SR-TE for traffic engineering, FRR, and segment routing (SR-MPLS) label distribution through the IGP.
  • 5+ years' experience troubleshooting network and system failures while establishing paths to resolution.
  • 5+ years' experience installing, changing, and securing Linux system environments.
  • 5+ years' relevant experience in Internet Service Provider (ISP) and/or Telecommunications networks.
  • 3-5 years' experience working with structured data, including JSON, XML, YAML, and CSV.
  • 3-5 years' experience with Python, Ansible, and Ansible Tower/AWX for network/system automation.

Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency with version control systems such as Git, including branching, pull requests, and integration with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Expertise in Linux security hardening practices, including CIS benchmarks, SELinux/AppArmor policies, and audit logging.
  • Experience managing services such as Apache/Nginx, DNS, and DHCP in Linux environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot boot issues, kernel modules, and package dependencies.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation, system management, and operational tooling development.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Windows system issues including authentication, network connectivity, and service failures.
  • Experience managing Windows-based infrastructure in hybrid or cloud-integrated environments (e.g., Azure AD, Intune, WSUS).
  • 3-5 years' experience with security system design and configuration.
  • 2-3 years' experience installing and/or troubleshooting SD-WAN environments.
  • 2-3 years' experience using analytics platforms, including Zabbix, Grafana, Elasticsearch, NetBrain, and Arbor Sightline.
  • 2-3 years' experience installing, configuring, and securing Windows Server environments (e.g., Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy).
  • Relevant network, security, or systems certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCNA, RHCE, LFCS) strongly preferred.
