Job description

Senior IT Engineer Position Overview

Accenture Federal Services is seeking a Senior IT Engineer who will utilize industry and domain knowledge and experience to perform technical analysis, develop working prototypes, and recommend best practice business changes for a DoD client and the CTO. This role will leverage extensive VMware virtualization expertise and cloud infrastructure experience to drive innovation and technical excellence. The position requires self-motivation, strong communication and collaboration skills, creativity, a broad range of technical knowledge and skill, and the ability to perform research and develop practical, cost-effective, secure, IT-based solution recommendations to solve client business challenges.

Key Areas of Expertise

The Senior IT Engineer should be familiar with:

  • Enterprise IT architecture, IT management, on-premises IT platforms, compute storage networking, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, and the concepts of Agile project management and software-defined approaches to infrastructure and software deployment
  • Deep understanding of on-premises (VMware) and clouds (AWS, Azure, Google, Oracle, and/or on-premise cloud such as VMware VCF)
  • VMware vSphere environment design, deployment, and optimization for mission-critical applications
  • Business acumen with the ability to understand and map business requirements to technical requirements
  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) implementation and management using VMware Horizon View
  • Storage solutions integration, including SAN/NAS technologies and NetApp storage systems
  • Backup and disaster recovery strategies for enterprise environments
  • Windows Server administration and Active Directory management
  • Hyper-V virtualization technology and cross-platform virtualization strategies

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead technical solution design and architecture for enterprise-scale virtualization and cloud systems
  • Manage and optimize VMware vCenter environments to ensure high availability and performance
  • Implement and maintain cloud infrastructure solutions across multiple platforms
  • Provide technical leadership for infrastructure monitoring, patch management, and system updates
  • Design and implement robust backup and recovery solutions for virtual environments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement innovative solutions
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues to minimize downtime and maintain optimal performance
  • Mentor junior team members and provide technical direction on complex engineering tasks
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for enterprise systems

Qualifications

  • Minimum ten (10) years of IT experience in engineering delivery of data center, enterprise services, or enterprise scale applications (500+ Users) in any of the following areas:
    • Proficiency in virtual networking configuration and VLAN management
    • Experience with service engineering and/or migration into cloud platforms such as but not limited to Microsoft Azure, Google, AWS, etc.
    • Background in VDI implementation and management
    • Familiarity with thin client management
    • Experience with scripting for automation of administrative tasks, such as but not limited to Python, Bash or PowerShell
    • Knowledge of Cisco UCS environments and management
    • Experience with backup solutions such as CommVault
    • Understanding of federal IT compliance frameworks including NIST, FedRAMP, and DoD-specific requirements
    • Background in supporting mission-critical applications with high availability requirements
    • Minimum three (3) years' experience leading a small team, providing technical direction and delegating complex engineering tasks
    • Minimum two (2) years' experience in design, developing, and/or deploying cloud-based systems with peers and C-Suite level client leadership

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must possess or obtain within 6 months Security+ CE or equivalent security certification
  • Deep knowledge and interest in infrastructure engineering principles and practices, and a clear ability to know how to adapt those principles to different contexts
  • Experience identifying business requirements and mapping technical requirements
  • Effective verbal and non-verbal communication with peers and C-Suite level client leadership
