Technical Service Engineers are professionals who provide technical support and solutions to customers or clients using a company's products or services. They diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues, often acting as a bridge between the customer and the engineering or product teams. Their role may also include training users, installing equipment, and ensuring that products function optimally in various environments. Technical Service Engineers need strong problem-solving skills and in-depth technical knowledge relevant to their field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a technical service engineer?

To thrive as a Technical Service Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering or a related technical field, strong problem-solving abilities, and relevant industry certifications. Familiarity with troubleshooting tools, diagnostic software, and customer relationship management (CRM) systems is commonly required. Job description

The Company:

Sungrow North America is a leading provider of renewable energy solutions, specializing in the development and manufacturing of photovoltaic inverters and energy storage systems. The company offers a comprehensive range of products and services designed to optimize the performance and efficiency of solar power installations. Sungrow North America is known for its commitment to innovation, high-quality standards, and exceptional customer service, aiming to provide sustainable and reliable energy solutions to meet the growing demand for clean power.

Position Summary:

The Technical Quality Project Engineer serves as the program-level owner of engineering change (ECO) and rework execution, responsible for architecting and managing end-to-end project lifecycles across multiple concurrent initiatives. This role acts as the primary first point of contact (initial response window owner) for both internal stakeholders and external customers, ensuring timely intake, technical triage, and structured escalation of rework-related issues.

A critical component of this role is the prioritization and sequencing of rework projects using risk-based frameworks that account for customer impact, technical severity, system criticality, and resource constraints. The engineer applies advanced project planning methodologies, data-driven prioritization models, and execution strategies to optimize resource allocation and accelerate resolution of high-impact field issues.

Acting as a cross-functional integration lead, the engineer synchronizes Field Service, Supply Chain, Quality, and third-party partners through structured governance, ensuring rapid response, schedule adherence, cost control, and technical compliance across all phases of project execution.

Responsibilities:

Program & Project Planning

  • Prioritize and master planning on rework projects
  • Perform materials planning and resource allocation modeling across field teams, vendors, and materials.
  • Establish baseline schedules, cost forecasts, and performance metrics (man-hr/unit, cost/unit) for all rework programs.

Engineering Change & Rework Execution

  • Demonstrate strong technical expertise to clearly communicate and explain rework scope, requirements, and solutions to customers.
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting and technical support to both service vendors and customers, ensuring effective issue resolution in the field.
  • Own the full lifecycle of engineering change orders (ECO/ECR) including validation, rollout strategy, and field execution.
  • Design and implement standardized rework deployment frameworks to ensure repeatability and scalability.

Data-Driven Forecasting & Tracking

  • Track rework project status and update to management.
  • Implement dashboard-driven tracking systems (e.g., Airtable, Excel models) for real-time visibility into:
    • Project status
    • Resource utilization
  • Analyze field performance data and failure rates to optimize future project planning.

Cross-Functional Program Integration

  • Work closely with dispatch teammates on scheduling.
  • Coordinate with Procurement on supply availability, lead times, and logistics constraints.
  • Manage third-party vendors through SLA and ensure quality of work.

Stakeholder Communication & Governance

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and intake window for all rework-related cases across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as the first responder for customer-facing rework projects, leading initial communications via phone, email, and conference calls to ensure timely triage and alignment.
  • Deliver executive-level reporting on project health, KPIs, and risk exposure.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Facilitate cross-functional alignment meetings and decision-making forums.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience in the PV industry, engineering, field service, or technical customer support environments; solar/PV experience strongly preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Project Management: Strong project management capabilities, including project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and execution tracking across multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Technical Expertise: Solid technical problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve field and operational issues effectively.
