Job description

Purpose Brands, the parent company of Orangetheory, Anytime Fitness, Waxing the City, and The Bar Method, is seeking a Technical Project Manager III to lead cross-functional initiatives in our In Studio Engineering domain, which powers the in-studio technology experience across multiple fitness brands and thousands of global locations.
The Edge Engineering team builds and maintains the on-prem and cloud-based backend and frontend systems, firmware/middleware on edge devices, edge devide design and validation, and the deployment frameworks that enable us to update and operate our in-studio systems at scale.
This role requires deep technical fluency and demonstrated experience managing complex programs across embedded systems, full-stack cloud services, and software deployment pipelines. You'll partner closely with engineering leadership, firmware developers, full-stack software engineers, QA, product managers, and field operations to ensure projects are scoped, delivered, and operationalized efficiently.
If you're passionate about bridging software, hardware, and infrastructure in a fast-paced environment-and want to help shape the future of connected fitness experiences-we'd love to hear from you.

Purpose/Impact: (Duties & Essential Functions)

  • Lead planning and execution of multi-disciplinary initiatives spanning edge device firmware, middleware, and cloud-integrated APIs.
  • Drive technical programs across the lifecycle-from requirements gathering to successful deployment across global studio locations.
  • Translate complex business and system needs into actionable epics, stories, and technical documentation for engineering teams.
  • Coordinate activities across engineering, QA, product, field support, and studio operations teams-ensuring successful handoffs and production readiness.
  • Track deployment frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and edge software rollouts to ensure version consistency, monitoring, and rollback plans are in place.
  • Proactively identify risks across hardware/software dependencies, align milestones, and resolve blockers across internal and vendor-delivered systems.
  • Own program-level reporting and communications for initiatives involving firmware upgrades, new device enablement, or backend system integrations.
  • Ensure change management and stakeholder alignment for initiatives impacting in-studio tech environments, including field testing and operational readiness plans.
  • Collaborate with other TPMs to manage interdependencies and maintain roadmap alignment across the broader tech portfolio.
  • Contribute to ongoing process improvements and TPM team growth, mentoring less experienced TPMs when appropriate.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field; equivalent work experience accepted.
  • 7+ years of experience in technical project or program management, with at least 2 years in a domain involving hardware/software integration, embedded systems, or cloud-edge platforms.
  • Strong understanding of firmware and middleware development lifecycles, including testing and deployment strategies for edge devices.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native APIs and backend systems that support device interaction and data ingestion.
  • Experience managing projects involving CI/CD pipelines, software deployment tools, and version control systems across hardware fleets or edge environments.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to translate between engineering and operations.
  • Hands-on experience with agile tools like Jira and Confluence; capable of building clear and well-structured tickets and plans.
  • Demonstrated success working across cross-functional teams, vendors, and business partners to deliver complex technical initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of software governance, rollback strategies, and field-readiness requirements for live deployment environments.
CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of firmware/embedded systems, APIs, networking fundamentals, and deployment frameworks.
  • Program Ownership: Ability to own a high-impact technical program end-to-end, keeping multiple engineering teams aligned toward shared outcomes.
  • Communication: Clear, concise communicator with an ability to distill complexity into simple plans, stakeholder updates, and decision frameworks.
  • Execution Excellence: Strong planning and coordination skills with attention to detail and proactive risk management.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experienced in aligning engineering, QA, product, operations, and support around a unified delivery approach.
  • Field Readiness: Familiarity with validating tech in the field and coordinating rollouts that minimize disruption and ensure measurable value.
  • Adaptability & Judgment: Knows when to escalate, when to dive deep, and how to shift between big-picture program strategy and tactical execution.
