Overview
The CO+I General Capacity team is focused on delivering various platform services to our global Cloud and AI customers. This role will require deep partnership throughout all of Microsoft as these programs will be on the leading edge of innovation and will include driving pilots and other experiments that shape our ongoing commitment to deliver Cloud and AI platform services rapidly at cloud scale. We are part of Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I), the team behind one of the world's largest cloud infrastructures, responsible for powering all Microsoft online products and services as well as powering Microsoft's "Cloud First" mission. CO+I is focused on growth, efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide.
We are seeking a highly capable Principal Technical Program Manager (TPM) to drive AI and cloud Infrastructure Capacity Strategy and Optimization across complex, large-scale environments. In this role, you will own and orchestrate Technical Strategies to optimize capacity across our Cloud and AI platforms and services. You will also identify and drive large efficiency programs to optimize DC capacity and power delivering efficiency and capacity gap mitigations. You will operate at the intersection of infrastructure design, hardware, software platforms, and operations, working closely with engineering, supply chain, data center, and business stakeholders to reduce cycle time, increase utilization, and eliminate blockers. This role requires strong technical depth, operational rigor, and the ability to influence across organizational boundaries without direct authority.

  • Collaboration: Strengthens inter-org relationships within CO+I and with key stakeholders, promoting a unified approach to region expansion that embodies our One Microsoft ethos
  • Critical Thinking: Analyzes and asks insightful questions across the multiple teams that have inputs into capacity, understanding both internal and external growth assumptions and challenge assumptions/inputs that don't align
  • Process Enhancement: Utilizes insights from engagements and root cause analyses to refine and automate processes, ensuring adherence to our high standards and driving ongoing enhancements
  • Long-Term Planning: Champions long-term regional health initiatives through application of principles, focusing on sustained customer success, and operational excellence
  • Stakeholder Management: Aligns internal and external stakeholders with region strategies through clear and actionable next steps

Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Background Check Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 15+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Technical Program Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $165,600.00 - $296,400.00 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800.00 - $331,200.00 per year.
