Job Summary:

We are seeking a Technical Documentation Engineer to support our Motion Division, which designs and builds advanced automation systems and custom engineered equipment.

This role is responsible for developing high-quality operating and maintenance manuals, engineering documentation packages, and compliance documentation for complex mechanical, electrical, and controls-based systems.

This is not a traditional writing role. The ideal candidate will have experience working with industrial equipment, automation systems, or engineered-to-order (ETO) machinery and can translate technical content into clear, structured documentation.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals for custom automation systems, including: Installation procedures, system operation, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting guides
  • Create and manage complete documentation packages for delivered systems, including: mechanical and electrical documentation, system overviews and user guides
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers to gather and validate technical information
  • Standardize and improve documentation templates, structure, and processes to support scalable growth
  • Support compliance and customer requirements, including documentation for regulated and government-related projects (DOE/DOD)
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and revision control across all documentation
  • Assist in developing internal documentation standards and best practices
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in technical documentation or engineering support
  • Experience working with: Industrial equipment, automation systems, and custom machinery or manufacturing environments
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to understand system-level operation of engineered equipment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience creating structured documentation in tools such as: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and PDF/document publishing tools

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer
  • Ability to occasionally walk the production floor and interact with equipment
  • Ability to review mechanical systems and electrical panels in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers and mobile devices
