What does a tech recruiter do?

A tech recruiter is responsible for sourcing, screening, and hiring candidates for technology-related roles. They often use applicant tracking systems, conduct interviews, and collaborate with hiring managers to fill technical positions efficiently.

How do I become a tech recruiter?

To become a tech recruiter, you typically need a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills. Gaining experience in recruiting, understanding technical roles, and becoming familiar with applicant tracking systems and sourcing tools can improve your prospects. Certifications like the AIRS Certified Internet Recruiter (CIR) or LinkedIn Recruiter can also enhance your qualifications.

Do tech recruiters make a lot of money?

Tech recruiters can earn competitive salaries that vary based on experience, location, and the size of the company. Entry-level recruiters typically earn less, while experienced professionals with strong networks and negotiation skills can make higher incomes, often supplemented by bonuses or commissions. Overall, the role offers potential for good earnings within the recruiting and tech industries.

What is the 70 30 rule in hiring?

The 70/30 rule in hiring suggests that recruiters should spend approximately 70% of their time sourcing and engaging candidates, and 30% on administrative tasks and interviews. For a Tech Recruiter, this balance helps ensure active candidate pipelines while managing hiring processes efficiently.

What are some common challenges a Tech Recruiter faces and how can they overcome them?

One of the main challenges Tech Recruiters encounter is sourcing qualified candidates for highly specialized or competitive technology roles, especially as technology evolves rapidly. They may also need to bridge communication gaps between technical managers and non-technical stakeholders while ensuring a smooth candidate experience. Staying up to date with the latest tech trends, leveraging professional networks, and continuously improving sourcing strategies can help overcome these challenges. Tech Recruiters often collaborate closely with hiring managers and engineering teams to understand technical requirements and align candidate profiles with business needs, making adaptability and clear communication essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Tech Recruiter position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tech Recruiter, you need a deep understanding of technical roles and hiring processes, typically supported by recruitment experience or a background in HR or IT. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), recruiting platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter, and sourcing tools is often required, and certifications like AIRS or LinkedIn Certified Professional Recruiter can be valuable. Excellent interpersonal skills, strong organization, and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders make an individual stand out in the role. These skills ensure effective identification, engagement, and placement of top tech talent in a competitive job market.

Join us as a Senior Recruiter and help shape the teams that power our business. You’ll be the trusted talent advisor to leaders across the company—owning high-impact searches, informing workforce plans with sharp market insights, and elevating our hiring practices end to end. If you love solving complex hiring challenges, influencing outcomes, and building scalable recruiting programs, this role is for you.

What you’ll do

  • Partner with business leaders and HRBPs on workforce planning, demand forecasting, and critical role prioritization.
  • Lead full-cycle recruiting for professional, executive, niche, and highly complex roles using bespoke sourcing strategies.
  • Consult on compensation and offer strategy; negotiate complex offers to ensure market competitiveness and internal equity.
  • Develop and refine TA playbooks, interview frameworks, and process improvements; drive adoption and deliver training.
  • Provide informal mentorship and capability-building for TA team members.
  • Manage candidate experience end-to-end: timely communication, structured interviews, feedback hygiene, and smooth handoff to onboarding.
  • Deliver advanced talent market intelligence, competitor analysis, and location strategies to inform hiring plans.
  • Develop and lead hiring initiatives; design outreach strategies, partnerships, and measurement frameworks.
  • Own TA analytics for assigned areas; recommend actions to improve time-to-fill, quality-of-hire, and source mix.
  • Represent TA in cross-functional initiatives, vendor evaluations, and technology enhancements; partner closely with HR Operations.
  • Champion the employer brand; collaborate on content, events, and campaigns to strengthen EVP and engagement.
  • Ensure adherence to EEO/OFCCP and company policies; maintain accurate ATS documentation and audit-ready records.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

What you’ll bring (minimum qualifications)

  • 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6+ years with a Master’s; or 3+ years with a PhD; or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex, ambiguous hiring challenges and drive outcomes with creativity, rigor, and sound judgment.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence across functions and levels.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Previous leadership experience (team lead, project lead, or mentorship of recruiters/hiring squads).
  • Experience in a cGMP environment.
  • Experience developing HR or TA processes and procedures at scale.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with iCIMS, ADP, and DocuSign.
  • 4+ years of proficiency in Microsoft Office/365 (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Why you’ll love it here

  • High-impact work: Own critical searches and programs that directly shape business outcomes.
  • Strategic seat at the table: Advise leaders with data-driven insights and help set the hiring agenda.
  • Build for scale: Evolve our playbooks, processes, and tools to create a world-class recruiting engine.
  • Culture of growth: Learn, stretch, and mentor in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.

This position can be remote or on site.  May require some travel.
