General Position Description
The Sustainability Manager provides comprehensive sustainability management services for the Project and is responsible for planning, coordinating, documenting, tracking, and reporting compliance with all contractual sustainability requirements. Serving as the Contractor's designated sustainability representative and primary point of contact for all sustainability-related matters, this role coordinates with the Government, Designer of Record, Quality Control Manager, Commissioning Team, Subcontractors, Suppliers, and Project Management personnel throughout the duration of the Project. Additionally, the position is responsible for maintaining all sustainability documentation and preparing the final Sustainability eNotebook and associated turnover deliverables.
Responsibilities
• Develops and maintains the Project Sustainability Management Plan, establishing compliance procedures, tracking tools, and reporting mechanisms.
• Coordinates sustainability objectives and requirements with all project stakeholders throughout the project duration.
• Collects, reviews, and maintains all sustainability documentation from subcontractors and project teams, verifying completeness and accuracy.
• Monitors compliance with all applicable sustainability requirements; identifies deficiencies and implements corrective action plans.
• Provides periodic sustainability status assessments and prepares all required sustainability reports and monthly updates.
• Tracks construction waste generated, diverted, recycled, and disposed of in landfill; maintains weight tickets, recycling receipts, and diversion calculations.
• Monitors compliance with IAQ Management Plans, low-emitting materials requirements, moisture control measures, and construction contamination prevention.
• Coordinates with the Commissioning Agent on energy-related systems, water efficiency systems, renewable energy systems, Measurement and Verification requirements, and sustainability documentation associated with commissioning activities.
• Verifies that commissioning documentation supports sustainability compliance requirements.
• Develops and maintains the Project Sustainability eNotebook, including Sustainability Narratives, Compliance Matrices, Supporting Calculations, Product Documentation, Inspection Records, Waste Management Records, and Commissioning Support Documentation.
• Prepares and submits closeout deliverables: Final Sustainability eNotebook, Sustainability Compliance Report, Waste Diversion Report, Material Compliance Report, and Energy/Water Compliance Documentation.
• Provides complete electronic turnover package including native files, calculations, supporting documentation, tracking logs, and compliance reports. All files become property of the Government upon project completion.
• Maintains project sustainability metrics and coordinates Government sustainability reporting requirements.
• Ensures compliance with UFGS 01 33 29, UFC 1-200-02, Federal Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings, EISA, LEED Rating System, FEMP, EPA WaterSense, and ENERGY STAR program requirements.
Qualifications
• For Security Clearance Requirements - must be a U.S. Citizen, as required.
• Bachelor's (4-Year) Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following disciplines:
o Engineering
o Architecture
o Construction Management
o Environmental Science
o Building Science or related field
• LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) credential preferred; LEED Green Associate or equivalent sustainability certification required.
• Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in sustainability management on federal construction projects.
• Demonstrated knowledge of UFGS 01 33 29, UFC 1-200-02, Federal Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings, EISA, and applicable Executive Orders.
• Familiarity with LEED Rating System, FEMP, EPA WaterSense, and ENERGY STAR program requirements.
• Experience developing and managing Sustainability eNotebooks and associated turnover deliverables.
• Strong knowledge of construction waste management, indoor environmental quality requirements, and commissioning processes.
• Ability to read and understand contract drawings and specifications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, etc.).
