Summary:
The Manager, ESG/Sustainability is responsible for supporting and maintaining Benchmark's existing ESG and Sustainability initiatives. This role will focus on coordinating data collection, managing reporting, and ensuring ongoing compliance with established ESG goals and metrics. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, collaborative, and capable of working cross-functionally to support the company's sustainability commitments. This role leads the ESG/Sustainability Council and reports to the SVP, General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer, with dotted line reporting to VP, Quality Assurance Regulatory Affairs and additional direction from the ESG/Sustainability Steering Committee to ensure accurate reporting and program continuity.
The Sustainability Manager will lead Benchmark Electronics' efforts in environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and governance (ESG) initiatives. This role is responsible for advancing the operationalization of our ESG strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting sustainable business practices that foster innovation, efficiency, and responsible growth. The role also oversees Benchmark's ESG/Sustainability commitments across the business, which may include the management and monitoring of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets, energy savings and reduction targets, and/or waste reduction targets, as applicable. This individual will lead the ESG/Sustainability Council and report to the SVP, General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer, with dotted line reporting to VP, Quality Assurance Regulatory Affairs and will receive additional direction from the ESG/Sustainability Steering Committee to ensure accurate reporting and program continuity.
Responsibilities:
  • Support the execution of Benchmark's ESG/Sustainability programs by coordinating ongoing activities and maintaining documentation.
  • Coordinate data collection, validation, and reporting processes for ESG metrics, including GHG emissions, energy use, waste reduction, and DEI initiatives.
  • Maintain ESG-related databases and dashboards to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather information for sustainability disclosures and reports (e.g., CDP, EcoVadis, RBA SAQs).
  • Prepare content for internal and external ESG communications, including sustainability reports and investor materials.
  • Monitor ESG reporting frameworks and assist in aligning Benchmark's reporting with standards such as GRI, SASB, and TCFD.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors and internal audit teams to support and lead ESG data reviews and assurance processes.
  • Track and update ESG key performance indicators (KPIs) and maintain a repository of supporting documentation and success stories.
  • Provide administrative support to ESG working groups and councils, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and documenting action items.
  • Work with internal ESG/Sustainability functional leads and third-party partners to manage, track and update ESG key performance indicators and to communicate our performance to stakeholders.
  • Stay informed on ESG trends and regulatory updates relevant to Benchmark's operations.
  • Lead the ESG/Sustainability Council in setting Benchmark's ESG/Sustainability strategy, embedding it across cross-functional working groups and reporting results in regulatory filings and in the Sustainability Report.
  • Coordinate data collection, validation, and reporting processes for ESG metrics, including GHG emissions, energy use, and waste reduction.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather information for sustainability disclosures and reports (e.g., CDP, EcoVadis, RBA SAQs).
  • Coordinate alignment with Internal Audit for Financial and ESG/Sustainability risk reviews and develop and maintain deep understanding of audit and internal control practices that support data collection, validation and process integrity.
  • Maintain deep understanding of ESG/Sustainability landscape, reporting and disclosure trends and key stakeholders including the ratings agency ecosystem, reporting frameworks and standards, disclosure legislation, and peer/company best practices.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable advocate to engage stakeholders and advance achievement of Benchmark's sustainability agenda.
  • Manage cross-functional working groups providing first line support and subject matter expertise to initiative development.
  • Build and maintain a repository of stories, proof-points, and other information that demonstrate Benchmark's progress towards its ESG/Sustainability KPIs, ensuring the content is accurate and promoted with key internal and external channels.
  • Create reports that clearly explain trends and provide data-backed, relevant context and actionable insights to enable the Company to continually evolve its ESG/Sustainability program.
  • Coordinate Benchmark's participation in major ESG/Sustainability surveys (e.g., CDP, EcoVadis, RBA SAQs, etc.) and indices and create plans for communicating key takeaways across internal and external stakeholder groups.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in ESG, sustainability, corporate responsibility, or a related area is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, CDP, TCFD) is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to data accuracy and integrity.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Experience working with data management systems or ESG software tools is a plus.

Education / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Business Administration, Sustainability, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in ESG management, sustainability, or related roles with a proven track record in developing and implementing successful initiatives.
  • Experience coordinating collaborative efforts to develop and deliver qualitative and quantitative ESG reporting, presenting data and trends in a clear and concise manner for stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, execution, and performance measurement.

  • Fluency with an array ESG indices including the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting and Standards Board (SASB), the Task Force on Climate-Related Disclosures (TCFD), the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG).
