Position Type: Tutors/Other Date Posted: 5/18/2026 Location: District Office Summer Session: June 8, 2026 - July 30, 2026 Position Type: Temporary / Summer School Instructional Assignment Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 8:30 AM - 1:15 PM Compensation: $37.50 per hour Location: Elementary Schools Position Overview Gary Community School Corporation is seeking highly qualified, student-centered educators to serve in Summer School Teaching Positions for Elementary programs. Summer school staff will provide standards-based instruction designed to strengthen academic achievement, support learning recovery, and promote student growth in alignment with Indiana Department of Education standards and district curriculum goals. Selected candidates will deliver engaging instruction, assess student progress, and maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment while supporting the academic and social-emotional needs of all learners. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide effective instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards and district-approved curriculum.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that address student learning needs and summer program objectives.
  • Monitor, assess, and document student progress throughout the summer session.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, academic records, and required reports.
  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment that supports student engagement and achievement.
  • Collaborate with administrators, instructional staff, and support personnel to ensure program success.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student performance and attendance as required.
  • Implement accommodations and modifications for diverse learners in accordance with IEPs, 504 Plans, and district guidelines.
  • Follow all district policies, procedures, and Indiana Department of Education regulations.
  • Participate in required professional development, orientation, and staff meetings.
Minimum Qualifications Elementary Summer School Teachers:
  • Valid Indiana teaching license appropriate for elementary grade levels.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of elementary curriculum, instructional strategies, and classroom management.
  • Ability to support foundational literacy, mathematics, and enrichment learning.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous summer school or intervention experience.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Strong classroom management and instructional technology skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform essential teaching functions in a classroom environment.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
