Job Summary & Examination Date
The job of Student Helper (Hourly) is established for the purpose of providing support to classroom teachers by assisting with routine, non-instructional tasks and helping students with basic academic activities under direct supervision. Student Helpers serve as an additional resource to ensure students remain engaged and supported during class activities. Duties are strictly limited to support functions under the direction and supervision of certificated staff.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Classroom environment and school campus settings.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Occasional light lifting (up to 25 lbs.), bending, and reaching.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information with students and staff.
- Seeing to read written instructions and classroom materials.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND TASKS:
1. Assists individual students or small groups of students in practicing or reviewing
classroom activities as directed by the teacher.
2. Assists with the preparation of classroom materials as directed by the teacher (e.g.,
cutting paper, collating handouts, assembling folders), but does not create or modify
instructional content.
3. Assists in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom environment (e.g., organizing
supplies, tidying activity stations).
4. Assists with the display of pre-designed bulletin boards or visual materials under the
direction of the teacher.
5. Monitors students in the classroom or common school areas (e.g., hallway transitions)
only under the direct supervision of, or in conjunction with, a certificated employee or
site administrator.
6. Reports observations of student behavior or incidents to the classroom teacher or site
principal.
7. Supports the classroom environment by maintaining confidentiality and promoting
respectful interactions among students.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or site principal to
ensure effective support of instructional activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Must be currently enrolled in college-level coursework at an accredited institution.
CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING REQUIRED:
Criminal Justice and FBI Fingerprint Clearance.
Negative TB test result plus periodic retesting per District policy.
Experience working with children is desirable.
As an hourly employee hours are not guaranteed; position is not benefits eligible.
