Job Description
Location: South Neighborhood (Case and Holden Halls)
Starting Pay Rate
: $14.73/hour
*Due to the minimum wage increase at MSU, the starting rate for this position is going to be $16 effective 8/9/26. Those hired prior to 8/9/26 will also be brought to the new minimum on this effective date.
As a Fall 2026 student food service assistant, you will be under the supervisor of the on-shift full-time and student supervisors. As a Student Food Service Assistant, you will help Culinary Services achieve its mission of Delivering Outstanding Spartan Experiences by providing exceptional customer service to our residents and guests. Student Food Service assistants maybe assigned to any of the following duties:
- Trucking/serving at food stations
- Maintaining salad, beverage, or desserts stations
- Working in the dish room
Student food service assistants may be reassigned to other workstations during their shift, depending upon operational needs.

Required Qualifications
โ€ข Be enrolled as a student at Michigan State University (during academic year)
โ€ข Demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service
โ€ข Must be able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision
โ€ข Must be positive and respectful, especially when working with a diverse population
โ€ข Be able to work nights, early mornings, and/or weekends
Preferred Qualifications
Previous food service experience is preferred but is not a qualification.

Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs
Work Hours
-You will be scheduled for weekend shifts on an alternating weekend basis
-Shifts are scheduled between the hours of 6:00am to 11:00pm
