RHS Job Title Student Food Service Assistant Job Description
Location: Kellogg Center
Wage: $14.00 per hour
Looking for a great job you can do while also being an MSU Student?Are you a person who is customer-focused, hardworking, a team player, and dependable? If you answered Yes, then we want you!
As a Student Food Service Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting full-time staff members with the preparation, cooking, and serving food during Kellogg events, helping prepare appetizers, entrees, starches, vegetables, and other items. You must also be knowledgeable of all relevant food safety regulations, standards, and guidelines to ensure the safe handling and serving of all meals to customers. It is your job to make sure the guests of Culinary Services receive the most outstanding customer service
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Cooking, preparing, and serving food at the Kellogg Center
  • Kitchen clean up after meals are served
  • Communicate with supervisors, managers, and other student team members
  • Coordinate with the supervisor's job tasks that need to be completed each shift
  • Other duties as assigned
    * This position does not have a set schedule, and times may vary depending on the needs of the company
Required Qualifications
Be enrolled as a student at Michigan State University (during academic year)
Demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service
Must be able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision
Must be positive and respectful, especially when working with a diverse population
Be able to work nights, early mornings, and/or weekends
Preferred Qualifications

  • Serve Safe or other food safety certification
  • Experience cooking or working in a high-volume food service operation.

Physical Demands
Must be able to move up to 10 pounds.
Work Hours
Must be able to work varied shifts, including early mornings (possible start 6:00AM), nights (until 10 PM), and weekends
During the school year domestic student employees may not work more than 29 hours per work week, and international student employees may not work more than 20 hours per work week
During school breaks, between semesters, and during summer semester, all student employees are permitted to work up to 40 hours per work week.
