Pay rate: $14.73. Due to the minimum wage increase at MSU, the starting rate for this position is going to be $16 effective 8/9/26. Those hired prior to 8/9/26 will also be brought to the new minimum on this effective date.

Locations: The Workshop in the STEM Teaching and Learning Facility, Sabor in The International Center Food Court, The Sandbox in Holden Hall, and a new Retail Branded Concept in Holmes Hall this Fall semester. Your availability, preference, and the unit's need will determine which location(s) you will be scheduled within.
Under the supervision of the on-duty Student Supervisors, and/or full-time staff and Operations Managers, a Student Food Service Assistant will support Culinary Services to achieve its mission of Delivering Outstanding Spartan Experiences (DOSE) by providing exceptional customer service to our residents and guests. In this position you will gain real world experience with problem solving skills and leadership development opportunities.
May be assigned to any of the following duties:
โ€ข Maintaining dining areas at food venues
โ€ข Cooking, preparing, and/or serving food
โ€ข Accommodate customer needs, answer questions and solve problems
โ€ข Utilize point of sale and cash handing functions
โ€ข Venue and/or kitchen clean-up after meal service
โ€ข Maintaining cleanliness and supplies in operation
โ€ข May be reassigned during the shift, depending on operational needs.
โ€ข Contribute to a positive work and shopping environment for all customers in a collaborative work environment.
During your shift, you will report to the Student Supervisors, full-time team members, and management staff on duty. You will be responsible for performing tasks as assigned by any of the supervising employees who work in the area to which you've been assigned.

Required Qualifications
โ€ข Be enrolled as a student at Michigan State University (during academic year)
โ€ข Demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service
โ€ข Must be able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision
โ€ข Must be positive and respectful, especially when working with a diverse population
โ€ข Must be able to lift/move up to 25 pounds
โ€ข Must be able to attend shifts as scheduled
โ€ข Must have ability to work 2 shifts during the week. Weekday shifts are flexible 4-6 hours per shift between MON 10AM through THU 12AM/Close
โ€ข Must also have ability to work 1 shift every weekend. Weekend shifts are flexible 4-6 hours per shift between SUN 10AM through SUN 12:AM/Close.
Preferred Qualifications
โ€ข Previous food service experience is preferred, but is not a prerequisite. For many of our employees, this is their first job!
โ€ข Minor computer knowledge required to complete online compliance training

Work Hours
Work Location Details:
International Center Retail Food Courts
7am - 8pm - some evenings required for events
The Workshop at STEM
7am-5:30pm Monday-Friday
Occasional evenings and weekends for special events
The Sandbox in Holden Hall6:30am-4:30pm Monday- Friday
Additional Info:โ€ข Team members may work 15-25 hours throughout the work week (Sun-Sat)
โ€ข During the school year domestic student employees may not work more than 29 hours per work week, and international student employees may not work more than 20 hours per work week
โ€ข During school breaks, between semesters, and during Summer semester, all student employees are permitted to work up to 40 hours per work week.
