Job description

Director of Strategy & Operations (STEM Nonprofit) - Hybrid | Greater Boston

Location: Hybrid (Lowell/Boston, MA)

Salary: $95,000–$110,000, commensurate with experience

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Help Build the Future of Kids in Tech

Kids in Tech prepares the next generation of innovators by expanding access to high-quality STEM education for students from historically underserved communities. Through hands-on experiences in coding, robotics, engineering, computational thinking, artificial intelligence, and digital literacy, we equip young people with the skills to thrive in the future workforce.

As we enter our next chapter - launching a public-facing STEM Innovation Lab in Boston's Seaport, expanding across multiple communities, and implementing our SPARK AmeriCorps program - we're seeking an exceptional operational leader to build the systems, people, and infrastructure that will support our continued growth.

About the Role

This is not a traditional operations position.

The Director of Strategy & Operations serves as a senior organizational leader and strategic partner to the Founder & CEO. You will own internal operations, organizational systems, AmeriCorps strategy and compliance, operational planning, and cross-functional execution - ensuring our programs, people, and processes are aligned to deliver exceptional results.

This role is for someone who enjoys building organizations, creating scalable systems, leading through complexity, and translating ambitious vision into operational excellence.

What You'll Lead
  • Organizational strategy execution and operational planning
  • AmeriCorps implementation, compliance, and organizational oversight
  • Program quality and performance, delivered through the Program Manager
  • Cross-functional operations, HR systems, and operational infrastructure
  • Organizational planning, dashboards, KPIs, and accountability systems
  • Internal communication, leadership alignment, and continuous improvement
  • Operational readiness for the Innovation Lab launch and continued statewide growth
We're Looking for Someone Who
  • Has built or significantly improved organizational systems - not simply managed existing ones
  • Has scaled organizations, programs, or complex operations
  • Has partnered closely with founders or executive leaders to drive growth
  • Exercises strong judgment and makes thoughtful decisions when information is incomplete
  • Leads through accountability, collaboration, coaching, and continuous improvement
  • Thrives in entrepreneurial environments where building matters as much as managing
This Role Is Not for Everyone

This is not a coordination or support role.

You’ll operate with a high degree of independence - owning operational outcomes, building systems that don’t yet exist, making difficult decisions, and helping shape the future of a growing nonprofit. The ideal candidate leaves organizations stronger than they found them by building sustainable systems, developing leaders, and creating operational excellence that scales.

Why Kids in Tech?

This is a chance to join Kids in Tech during one of the most exciting periods in our history. You’ll build the operating foundation for an organization expanding its reach, launching new initiatives, and creating life-changing opportunities for thousands of young people across Massachusetts.

If you’re energized by building systems, leading people, and shaping the future of a mission-driven organization, we’d love to hear from you.

Kids in Tech is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We encourage candidates from all backgrounds and experiences to apply.
