Job description

Are you the person who sees something headed for a problem and fixes it before it becomes one? You are an operations leader who sees what needs to happen and implements.

As Director of Firm Strategy & Operations, your mission is to drive the initiatives that keep the firm moving forward and take administrative obstacles off the partners' plates so they can focus on excellent client service and internal leadership.

You are a master of all things operations. You will lead the administrative team, dig into workflows and redesign how work gets done, write and improve SOPs, evaluate technology and systems, and make sure initiatives get implemented. You have seen a P&L, understand what KPIs are telling you about the business, and have enough HR knowledge to manage day to day people processes and know when something needs to be elevated.

Director of Firm Strategy & Operations – Your Job Duties

As the Director of Firm Strategy & Operations, you will own firm administration and keep operational initiatives moving. You will work closely with leadership, partners, the accounting and administrative teams and outside vendors to remove roadblocks and streamline Firm operations.

You will:

  • Oversee and lead the administrative team (a team of 5+ team members), understanding their workflows, removing obstacles to success and streamlining the administrative department
  • Improve how the team works and supports the rest of the Firm including with the employee onboarding and offboarding process
  • Own the operational initiatives, from idea to research and analysis through implementation (the partner group brings forward an initiative and you are researching it and bringing a few options to the next meeting with your recommendation)
  • Understand the numbers behind the business and what they are telling you, performing analysis and escalating items of importance (utilization, realization)
  • Evaluate existing processes and workflows and refine, document, and expand Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Support the continued implementation and adoption of the firm's ERP and workflow systems, including moving administrative processes and daily tasks into the technology
  • Evaluate technology and systems, coordinate with vendors, and help troubleshoot IT and technology issues
  • Serve as the point person with outside IT vendors and other operational partners, keeping issues and projects moving
  • Continue evaluating what the firm needs from its administrative support structure as the business grows and changes

Director of Firm Strategy & Operations – You Have (Required Skills, Experience & Team Fit)

You have:

  • Prior experience in an operations role supporting business operations including developing SOPs, leading and implementing project role outs
  • Strong business acumen. You understand how the pieces of a business fit together and how operational decisions impact business outcomes
  • Prior experience overseeing and developing a team, and an excitement and desire to directly manage administrative team members
  • Strong affinity for technology – you embrace tech in your daily operations work
  • The ability to run independently with an initiative. You create your own structure and momentum, figure out what needs to happen, organize the moving pieces, follow through, and get it done
  • Adaptability and a growth mindset. When the business changes, you adjust and are comfortable with ambiguity (in fact, you create clarity!)

  • Prior experience working within a billable hour / professional services environment
  • Prior experience supporting a growing organization through technology implementation, systems changes, or operational improvements
  • A background in human resources (HR)

Director of Firm Strategy & Operations – Benefits for You

Your compensation will range from $135,000 to $160,000, with flexibility, depending on your experience. You will be provided with comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance, paid time off and retirement plan, and professional development budget to continue to develop your skills.
