POSITION SUMMARY:
Consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Youth Sports Coordinator supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. In partnership with the Sports Director, this position oversees the development and operations of high quality sports programs, ensuring that they meet their intended goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Directs and provides hands-on leadership for assigned programs and activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Assists with the implementation of tournaments.
2. Ensures a high level of customer service for all program participants.
3. Manages assigned program budgets to ensure revenue and program service goals are achieved.
4. Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices. Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of equipment.
5. Monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
6. Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer coaches across multiple dimensions of diversity. On-boards and develops them for success. Maintains staff schedules and evaluates staff performance.
7. Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings.
8. Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; coordinates officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
9. Ensures that uniforms are YMCA brand compliant and ordered in a timely manner. Distributes team uniforms and awards; coordinates and distributes team photographs.
10. Organizes and hosts season parties and events, promoting healthy eating and good nutrition.
11. Collaborates with branch marketing leaders to promote programs, organize and schedule program registrations. Review and processes program scholarship applications.
12. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships the City of Myrtle Beach, Horry County Government, First United Methodist Church, and other community organizations.
13. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
14. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
15. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
16. Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Sports enthusiast, loves and honors the game; coaching and/or playing experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • One to two years related experience preferred.
  • Minimum age of 21. 
  • Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Complete all required Redwoods trainings by their completion deadlines
    • Child Abuse Prevention supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
      • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
      • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
      • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
      • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
