Job description

Sorting Room Worker

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for Sorter.


Job Summary

Receives, sorts, prices, packs, and distributes merchandise and processes all items in an efficient, effective, and timely manner in accordance with established Salvation Army policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations. Separates damaged items to be discarded and/or sent to the bailer. Maintains a clean, orderly, work environment. Maintains the sorting area in a clean and orderly manner and makes sure that all equipment receives proper maintenance.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to sort merchandise based on established categories. Knowledge, skills and ability to successfully communicate in the English language.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred, and six months experience sorting and pricing merchandise in a retail environment or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements.


Moderate physical effort required associated with lifting and carrying 5 to 25 pounds of merchandise, materials, and supplies on a frequent basis.Must be able to push or pull moderately heavy
loads, 25 to 100 pounds, of merchandise, materials, and supplies on an occasional basis.Work requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, and some climbing.

Work is are usually performed in a warehouse environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in the weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
